Yes, definitely don't just drop the clutch, you'll ruin your transmission if you do it at too high of an RPM. Or you'll at least burn out the clutch quickly.

If you drop really hard and really high 5500 RPM+ you can even break a driveshaft.

AWD is much different, in an FWD or RWD the tires spin and nothing really gets hurt, but with an AWD that doesn't want to slip or spin, the shock goes straight to your transmission and diff which isn't good.

With that said, with practice you can do pretty quick launches. You have to learn how to release the clutch quick enough not to bog and give it enough gas at the right time, it takes practice but you'll love it once you get it, and no other car will beat you off the line.

forget all the mentality and behaviour you had with a civic.. relearn how to drive and behave in a car, then drive an STI, otherwise you'll end up dead or killing someone.

AWD and dropping the clutch is a recipe for disaster.

Things to know about the 04 STi - Wheel Bearings go on that model like no tomorrow.
