3rd Gen Camry Tranny Swap
 

i need to swap out my auto tranny for a 5 speed manual for my 3rd gen cam,
anyone know where i can get this done and what which car's tranny i can replace it with?

Need to?? Or want to? There's a difference.

Any mechanic will be able do it, but I don't think they will hunt around for all the parts that you'll need. Do you realize what you'll need for the swap? Off the top of my head I can think of the following:

- clutch pedal
- brake pedal (automatic brake pedals are usually larger)
- clutch cylinder (if hydraulic)
- clutch cable (if cable actuated)
- tranny
- flywheel
- flywheel bolts
- clutch disc
- clutch pressure plate
- axles (both driver and passenger)
- shifter
- shift knob
- shift boot
- shift linkage
- rewiring

I'd get all the parts needed before going to a mechanic. Of course, the exception to this is if the mechanic has a 5 speed Camry in the back that you can pilfer all the parts from. :)

thanks for the info man. but like, would I be able to fit the transmission from a supra on the cam? or a celica?

i'm thinking of getting an engine swap eventually...but i dont want to swap in a 3SGTE or 1JZ or 2JZ with the 4 speed auto...
