'86 Corolla
I don't have the money just yet, and I was in the market of buying a '86 Corolla AE86 or a GTS (I think's there different models). I was wondering if thee are a lot of engine upgrades and how much HP do you think you can get out of it. Thanks.

Well I'm guessing you want this car because of the popular anime Initial D. Lucky for you, because of that show, some companies still make parts for that car. :)
An ae86 stock doesnt have much power. So if your goals are drag racing, I'd maybe look elsewhere. But if you want to auto-x, or drift, then its a good vehicle. Especially because of its light weight. You should be able to produce 150-200hp depending on the amount of work and money you put into the engine. But I would definatly focus on the suspension in that car. That, coupled with weight reduction would be your greatest strength. |
drop in a 4A-GE (if its not stock). that engine is popular for aftermarket hardware

all depends how deep your/daddy's pockets are.

Another cool car that is often overlooked (probably because it wasn't in Initial D) is the FB RX7s (1980-1985). If you know what you're doing, they can be very fun and very quick cars. They also sound like weed wackers.

To be honest I've never even heard of Initial-D, and I came accross the Corolla Watching some drift videos. But thanks for the input.

ohhhh can't wait until F&F 3. My car goes on sale after that movie.
shwitz you should buy a S13 (google = 240sx) its even better than the AE86 at drifting. FYI -> AE86 came in 2 models, the SR5 and GTS. The sr5 had a 4ac and the gts had a 4ag. But if you want to be a D1 pro drifter then get the GTS version. BTW. goodluck finding that 20year old corrola for under $5000 |

the corolla pictured above just appears to be such a heap, then again im not a drifting fan. |
I think the AE86 was the Corolla GTS... the SR5 had a different chassis name, AExx probably.

In Japan
AE86 = GTS AE85 = SR5 In North America AE86 = GTS and SR5 Trust me im a hardcore drifter! |

I've seen one with a 3rotor swapped into it. Man that car flew.

I saw a very very fast AE86 when I was at E-town for the NHRA Sport Compact Fall Nationals. It was stupid fast. Stupid fast. I think it was from Puerto Rico. It's the only car I've seen drift down the entire 1/4 mile. Too bad Stu wasn't here, he'd be able to tell us all who the guy was and how he knows him and how they are friends.
