Video: New Supra 6spd record

Unreal how the stock 6spd gearbox can handle it.

Just beat the record that he set previously for fastest 6spd supra (previous record was 9.62@149.48mph)

right click save as:

9.39 pass --- http://homepage.mac.com/rdwoon/9.39@154.7April1st.mov
9.50 pass --- http://homepage.mac.com/rdwoon/9.53@150.3April1st.mov

First pass on the new setup with the car in almost 5 months. VERY first pass mind you. My 1-2 shift on the 9.3 pass sucked, I know. It was my first pass in months and it was all over the damn place 2-3 and 3-4 were better. Shifting was much improved on the 9.5 pass but I still had to really drive the car to get it down the track. 60ft's weren't very good but not bad for a poorly prepped track. I have a good rear end in the car finally so I intend on raping it out of the hole soon! Had the 1-2 shift been better and a straighter pass it would have easily been in the 9.20's. Then I just need a 1.40 60ft and some more mph. Where can I find a prepped track and 5psi more boost

My current setup is basically this:

GT47-80 Garrett Turbo
Virtual Works Exhaust Manifold, 4.5in DP/MP/Catback
Virtual Works Intake Manifold
HKS 272 Cams
WOTM Built Bottom End
WOTM Built Head
WOTM Fuel System with:
1600cc Injectors
3 Walbro Pumps
Weldon Fuel Pressure Regulator
WOTM -10 Rail
WOTM Billet Fuel Hanger
WOTM Stage II Carbon Carbon Clutch (AKA RPS Pro Style C/C)
Greddy 4-Row FMIC
AEM EMS
Boost Logic Crank Pulley
WOTM Driveshaft
TRD LSD
AEM Cam Gears
HKS Twin Power DLI
WOTM 4in Chargepiping on the intake side
Virtual Works IC Piping on the Turbo Side
Custom Upper Radiator Pipe
Virtual Works Lower Hard pipe
Custom VW Water Neck

And of course the list goes on and on and on.... No NOS on the car at all...

Stupid question - sorry for dragging this thread back up.

What's the fact that it's a 6-speed got to do with anything?

1. it the fact that it's the stock 6 spd gearbox (unmodified) from the factory.

2. Running those kind of times on a manual tranny is much more difficult then using an automatic especially on a consistent basis. Manual trannys require MUCH greater driver skill no matter what car.

Cool, thanks.

Not exactly there chief. That tranny is anything but stock. All the fast Poopras are running Chevy Turbo 350s and turbo400s and 2spd 'glides. Billy gliddens mustang he had awhile back ran 7s with a tremec. ANYTHING with a clutch has an advantage over an automatic. Except you only use the clutch to stage the car...in extreme cases. (lencos,Brunos,Jeffcos,G-force's etc}

Ummm, yes that car IS using the stock 6 speed gearbox. He's not using the clutchless gearboxes from Japan that cost a gazillion dollars. Are you saying that car is using an automatic???? LOL. Why don't you tell the owner of the car what tranny he is using. His whole purpose is to be the first 6speed supra in the 8's. Listen to the shifting, it's FAR from being an automatic. Why don't you conatct him yourself and ask him what tranny he is using.

www.wotm.com ask for Ryan Woon.

7's on a tremec???? Now I find THAT very difficult to believe. You sure glidden wasn't using the liberty as that is the manual tranny of choice for that class/car? I'd like to see some facts on that if he was using a tremec.

This isn't the fastest 6 speed SUpra record. (I don't think)

It is still held by Peter Blach in his 98 Supra.. he ran a 9.35... this one is a 9.39.

Here's the video. in fact, I posted this video here already a while ago..
This Supra is full weight, and driven to and from work each day.

9.39@149 mph

I never said the guy was running an automatic!! It was for the guy who couldnt understand why 6spds were soo much slower. Glidden ran a liberty in later years but started off with a tremec and many other cars ran tremecs in super street too. Including Nick Scavo. Not a T-5 or TKO, didnt matter S/S rules mandated that the clutch peddal must be pushed in-between shifts in-order to run a stick in that class. He was one of the first..and the reason why he owned the class.

That time was actually voided. Peter posted on SF that the staging lights were messed up and it was questionable that the time clock started when the rear wheels passed the staging lights, rather than the front tires therefore causing an incorrect ET. So he was not 100% sure that the 9.35 and 9.66 runs were accurate. His official pass was 9.67 @ 148.08mph.

Definitely a class act and respect to him for claiming facts as he knew them. :thumbsup

oops, sorry.

Guys, thanks so much to those of you who actually approached this whole ordeal with courtesy and respect. I learned a lot from those of you who took the time to explain rather than talk down and at the end of the day, i'm comfortable saying that the only official pass from yesterday's drag session was the 9.67@148.08 pass.

Of the three passes, that pass is the only one where the pre-stage and stage lights turned off right when the car left the line. On the other two passes, it's questionable whether the et's were accurate or not based on what seemed like the clock starting when the rear lights passed the starting line. In the end, I do NOT know whether the 9.35 and 9.66 runs were accurate or not and therefore would rather not claim them as fact.

All along I made it clear that I was amazed and all I had was the video and the time slip, I still feel the same but don't feel like the 9.67 has ANY controversy whatsoever whereas the other two passes do...

Maybe one day we'll go back to the track and try it again!

Thanks
Peter
