car keyed, need advice!

ok so my moms brand new 328xi was keyd at her school last thursday. The little bastartds keyed both front fenders, the hood and the front bumper. The car is painted in the matalic grey colour. i have pictures but my sister has the camera right now so i cant post them. My dad is afraid to make the claim threw the insurance comapnay and me and my mom are both trying to convince him otherwise beucase the entire front end of the car needs to be repainted. I need to know if this is something that is worth going threw insurance. What type of claim is it? are we gonna get a major increase in our rates when we renew?

the problem is my dad thinks that if we put the claim threw the insurance company he is gonna get hit with reduclious rates next time we renew. is this true? i have estmated that to repaint the frount end properly its gonna cost at like 5g's+, is that a fair estmate? Well any info would be great, also any comments from people that this has happened to would also be greatly apreciated. i will post up some pics tonite when i get the camera back.

its gonna raise the insurance but 5gs is way too much to paint the front of a car, did a bmw 5 series a month ago, full front end, with a new bumper for 2500 and thats done right, remove inner fender , remove headlights all that, so maybe you neeed another estimate....

we did a complete strip and repaint of a 00 323I at the body shop i work at. that was a total tear down, glass, handles, trim, bumpers, lights etc. and the bill was like 5500. i would say that 2000.00 to 2500.00 would be a fair estimate.

paint it yourself, not worth the ins. hit.............

Man that really sucks... I hate people like that!

I had my entire car repainted a few years back because it was keyed, and know two other people who've been through the same.

All of us went through insurance, and none of us had any trouble with rate hikes.

My understanding of the situation is that as long as you haven't recently written off a vehicle/had any other significant claim, your rates won't be affected.

Just don't try to be smart and paint the car a different colour. Nothing says insurance fraud like a black car getting 'keyed' and being repainted red.

use your insurance, I would. I seriously doubt your rates will go up. And your estimate does seem a little high, I would think it should be around $4000 max, maybe even less

if its not an accident I really doubt it will affect your rate but call to make sure dont quote me on this... but this also really depends on your deductable and how much you have available and if you would want to use it on something like this or save it for something more serious.. like others have suggested a fair quote / estimate should be 2500 and thats with the parts removed.. so hit up a few garages..

The claim would be a comprehensive claim. Please have your parents call me at work. I tell all my clients to give me a call about these situations. The joke around the office is that "our phone conversations are not recorded for quality purposes." I sell insurance, however Im like any other driver who wishes to not have their rates go up. The reason I say this is, I can help your parents and anyone else who wishes to know more about claims and insurance purposes.

My work number is 905-877-9652, have them ask for Devon
