Do officers have to appear in Court?
 

At one point for speed infractions, the officer must appear in court to present evidence on behalf of the crown. If the officer did not show up, the case was thrown out and all charges were dropped.

I've heard rumours that officers in Toronto do not need to be present during traffic ticket trials.

Can anybody confirm or deny this?

the last time i checked, police officers are still required to attend court days to present their evidence against you, if they are not present the case is dismissed. if there were changes to this rule, i'm sure it would have been in the news, and i have yet to see it (i follow the news everyday). the only latest change to the traffic violation system is the introduction of computerized tickets, and even that isn't applied to all districts yet.

so to answer your question .. "yes, they still do".

yes they do - or they can get someone on behalf to speak for them. if neither is avail - say goodbye to your traffic tick

Its all good. If they dont show up or have a rep present... you can break the law again.
