driving without a hood

HTA doesnt state anything about this .. not sure though if it will fall under unsafe vehicle.

has anyone gotten a ticket for this or know of the consequences?

Hmm dunno really.

I know a guy who drives a 1969 GTX allways without a hood, as well as some other classic car owners - like no hood top or sides on 1930's rides. My bro used to drive his 442 without one, no tix Ive ever heard of.

Make a call to the Ministry of Transportation for the most authoritative answer. I believe it's ok as long as the fan blades are covered. If a person were to be hit and landed on the engine there can be no exposed moving parts which may cause additional injury.

You'll be charged with operating an unsafe vehicle, if the officer is up on regulation 611

(e) no hood latch shall be missing or fail to hold the hood closed and no safety catch, in the case of a front opening hood, shall be missing or inoperative;

You must have a hood... it must be secure...

hope this clears it up for you...

I don't see where that says you need a hood. It says if you have a hood it must be properly latched.

I've yet to sign a safety on a vehicle with no hood...:nono:

There are 2 T buckets, and a Model A pickup in my town. They are safety checked and the pickup is a summer daily driver. None have a hood.

Why do you want to drive around without a hood ? Get one of those transparent ones, if your engine bas is that gorgeous !!

The T bucket and model A are a bit older than the cars we are discussing.

You dont actually need one. Its why you can cut as big a hole in your hood as you want. If you do have one though, it needs to latch properly, thats what that article is saying.

Now im not saying if you drive around without a hood, a cop wont give you a ticket. But im saying if you fight it, you will win, a hood isnt neccessary.

What BJ is trying to say here is. GO FOR IT. And watch the hassles you run into. In the end, don't cry about the results.

driving without a hood serves no real purpose. even if u have a nice engine bay, and there is a voice inside you compelling you to show it off, it will just collect bugs and dirt while driving....and spit from all the people laughing at you when you park it at a mall.

not to mention weathering...parts will rust much, much quicker...and water + dizzy = trouble.
