Failure to report an accident...?? consequences? Insurance refund?

Ok so my g/f was in an accident a few weeks back. She was in traffic and the mini van in front of her just got an amber light..blah blah blah..anywaz she ended up rear ending the mini van. Her car was in resonably bad shape whereas the mini van had some minor bumper damage. Anywaz the guy was cool about it but his wife was flipping out(beyotch!). He agreed to not go through insurance as his damage was minor and she'd pay for the repairs and well, she'd pay for the repairs to her car. So she gets her car fixed with a $3000+ bill and now she gets a message from the insurance company with a claim number etc. which I'm assuming means that the guy changed his mind and decided to take it to a claim. So what can she do and what are some of the consequences? Will the insurance company refund her for her paid repairs? Can she be ticketed and fined? If anyone has sensible input it would be appreciated. :smilie_da

It's unlikely she'll be ticketed or fined. The other driver is just as guilty of leaving the scene.

However, it's also unlikely (verging on the impossible) that her insurance company will refund any of her money for repairs, as the damage clearly exceeds the minimum amount requiring a police report.

I would check thoroughly into that claim number filed by her insurance company and determine exactly what's occurred. Without that police report, the other party's insurance company has no business contacting her insurance company.

and what are you talking about? "Without that police report, the other party's insurance company has no business contacting her insurance company" and this is incorrect, besides the fact, the other person prob went to collision reporting centre anyways.
