A fender bender settled outside of insurance...

Hey everyone I';m new here and wondering if anyone had similar situation as mine but yea I basically got into a fender bender with another driver. The first step took was to go file a collision report at the station, and the cop recommended that we dont take it up with the insurance and just deal with the damage privately because it is really the best way to go.

So basically the other driver and I settled on an amount and I paid up in cash today. We agreed not to call insurance for this because he was satisfied with this deal.

However my question is, even if you dont take the damage up with the insurance, is the collision report that was filed going to be detected and be up on their insurance record regardless? or is the concept of collision report basically a self-awareness check on the situation with the other driver? I had many different stories on this so I need more confirmation because even if we took the matter up privately without insurance getting involved, I'm wondering if they will still see the collision report and bump up my insruance either way. I'm hoping it is clear and they wont do anything about it as long as the other driver doesnt call up HIS insurance.

thanks in advance

bringing it to the CRC is basically like letting a police officer take a collision report.

It will be on your record, and insurance can get a hold of that information. Whether or not the insurance company will get the information is another thing.. the insurance company will have to contact the mto for the information.

Yes sir the centre doesnt make a habit of forwarding the reports to insurnace, but insurnace companies routinely get that info, they do it easily. I know this for sure, it could likely show up in ur future just cause of the report.

oh yes I knew of the fact that it is on record, but I guess the question was what is the chance that they will want to get to that record because I did call the CRC to ask and the officer confidently replied that it will NOT be on my insurance because the report filed are just sent to MTO. So I guess as long as I stay clean and the other party does not contact his insurance for it (which we agreed on ) I think it is safe

If you took it to a CRC in hamilton they are run by the insurance company and they will let your company know

is that right... mine fortunately was not in hamilton... and the police himself told us the best way to solve this is between us two drivers privately and the insurance won't bother us for it. The cop himself told us directly that is what he did himself twice as well. I called CRC yesturday to confirm as well and same answer.

Also FYI for next time if the damage is under $1000.00 dont even tell the CRC or the police. But make sure you get something in writing and a signature from the other party saying you delt with the incident and its over Dated too....
