First ticket

And a rather hefty one aswell. Not going to give an explination, I was speeding that was the end of that.

149 in a 100 zone. $259.00 <--- Owned.

I want to fight it, or cut a deal with the prosecutor. I was thinking maybe drop the charges, but I still pay the fine? Has this been done before? What are the steps they usually take with this?

Any constructive help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

49 km/h over the limit carries 4 demerit points, so if you plead guilty with an explanation (for a reduced sentence) they'll most likely reduce the charged one level down to a speed between 16-29 km/h which carries 3 demerit points.

That's the best way to go. Speeding is a strict liability offence, so the charges aren't going to get "dropped"... pleading down to 29 over is the best way to go.. no need to hire anyone or anything, just book a trial date and show up on time.

Other than that, try to keep your foot off the gas 'till this ticket comes off your record and you'll be fine.

I believe Speeding is Strict only ABOVE 80kmh. Speeding below 80 CAN BE absolute (actions taken by a reasonable person despite the infraction).

Of course this doesn't apply in this case. Your only recourse would be to challenge the evidence. I'd follow the advice above and ask (nicely) if the prosecutor would kindly consider a reduced charge.
