Sell the car - get a bus pass, borrow the parent's car, and/or take taxis.

Do without the car for a couple of years. You will be literally thousands of dollars ahead, and insurance at 18 is cheaper than insurance at 16.

when I was 16, I got a 91 buick regal as a gif from my aunt, but the car was a piece, albiet a piece that was mine, and I could drive it. I got it for free and i got it saftied from a mechanic who was more than kind to me. Becuase I was the primary driver I was paying 360 a month, for just liability, and under an umbrella policy, because I was still living at home. This was almost 5 years ago, and insurance rates have risen. Although I got the car for free, I surely paid for it

Thats nothing. When I was 18 I had a Mazda protege5. After 2 speeding tickets I was paying $850 a month for it. For that much I can finance a brand new M3...

Kingsway General was the cheapest company I could find. I started with them when I was 19 with an MX3. But just keep in mind that what you pay is what you get. If you ever need anything from them don't count on it. They will harrass you and write off your car if anything happens, even if the damage isn't bad. I hate insurance companies!!!

^^, im with kingsway right now with just liability only. They don't even know about my modification and bodykit. If anything happen, im scare they will not insure the damage now.

With just Liability they won't cover anything if the accident is deemed your fault. My MX3 was stock when a guy ran a light and hit me....Kingsway sent over some elderly appraiser who completely lowballed my car, wrote it off and I was given a call from an adjuster for the company who basically told me they would not consider any other vehicle value (ministry, auto trader, etc) and threatened me to either take the amount they offered or nothing at all. So I just took the money, bought a parts car for $300 to fix up my car and ended up selling the leftover parts and made almost $1500 in profit! See....every story has a happy ending! :)

You should never allow an adjuster to "bully" you. Sometimes a disagreement will go on for months, you just need proof of the current book value. I would post at least 20-30 cars optioned the same as yours from the auto-trader with varying mileage to get a decent mean average value. Do all the legwork they won't do to. Adjusters will sometimes use this bullying tactic to settle the claim quickly however that's obviously not in your best interest.

Try Easyway insurance brokers, ask for Lauren Winders. I deal with these guys through work, they seem like stand up people. They specialize in young drivers and people who have trouble getting insurance.
