A POLICE OFFICER SPEAKS

Citizen, it seems you've figured me out. I fit neatly into thetegory
where you've placed me. I'm stereotyped, standardized,zed,
classified, grouped, and always typical.

Unfortunately, the reverse is true. I can never figure you out. From
birth, you teach your
children that I'm the bogeyman, then you're shocked when they
identify/associate with my traditional enemy... the criminal! You accuse
me of coddling criminals..until I catch your kids doing wrong. You may take
an hour for lunch and several coffee breaks each day, but
point me out as a loafer for having one cup. You pride yourself on your
manners, but think nothing of disrupting my meals with your troubles.

You raise Cain with the guy who cuts you off in traffic, but let me catch
you doing the same thing and I'm picking on you. You know all the traffic
laws...but you've never gotten a single ticket you deserve. You shout
"FOUL" if you observe me driving fast to a call, but raise the roof if I
take more than ten seconds to respond to your complaint.

You call it part of my job if someone strikes me, but call it police
brutality if I strike back. You
wouldn't think of telling your dentist how to pull a tooth or your doctor
how to take out an appendix, yet you are always willing to give me
pointers on the law. You talk to me in a manner that would get you a
bloody nose from anyone else, but expect me to take it
without batting an eye. You yell that something's got to be done to fight
crime, but you can't be bothered to get involved.

You have no use for me at all, but of course it's OK if I change a flat
for your wife, deliver your
child in the back of the patrol car, or perhaps save your son's life with
mouth to mouth breathing, or work many hours overtime looking for your
lost daughter.

So Mr.Citizen, you can stand there on your soapbox and rant and
rave about the way I do my work, calling me every name in the book, but
never stop to think that your property, family, or maybe even your life
depends on me or one of my buddies. Yes, Mr. Citizen, it's me the cop!

Although I do see eye to eye with some of the points in the article, police in general are in no way the picture perfect citizen. In my humble opinion they are the worlds largest, most organized goverment funded gang. Not all of course, but some members of this organization, use this power to their own advantage causing a bad reputation for the real "good" cops. And rightfully so.

Just this weekend a friend of mine had drugs planted on him at the Bread and Honey festival in Streetsville by a "police officer" who recognized him from an earlier incident. Not much, but enough for him to have to spend the night in jail and have a court date set which may or may not cause alot of problems for him in the future. In a judges point of view who would you believe? A teenager or a police officer?

Corruption is most easily brewed when there is too much trust placed upon a person/organization. Think of it this way, if there is little to no chance of getting caught wouldnt you put your hand in the piggy bank?

Just some thoughts.

lol, here is a funny thing for you. I work in a banquet hall on the weekends and some times weekdays, anyways yesterday we had a hall full of 32 division police officers(retirees banquet), around 100 retired police officers and 80 or so police on duty*half of them left for the night shift right after the ball)

They consumed more beer and hard alcohol i have seen consumed in around 3 months, everybody was completley wasted, and believe me nobody was taking the taxi home, half of the police officers left early to go into the night shift, and they were drinking too.....

I raise hell and lock you up when you drink and drive, and do it myself a week later just for giggles.

Authority is always abused... whether its military, politicians or police. It has always happened, and it will always happen.

And police are amongst the highest secular group to be or become alcoholics (and unfaithful).

Why would a cop care if he or she breaks the law? What's the worst that can happen, they get suspended WITH pay! WTF, they get a vacation when they break the law they are supposed to uphold? Heck, it's been proven time and time again that an average cop knows less about the law than an average educated person. And to make matters worse, if some ignorant cop decides to charge you with, say, a weapons offense because you are carrying nail clippers in your car, you have to spend a lot of time and money to prove yourself innocent, plus that charge, even if it's dropped or you're found completely innocent, stays with you forever. They like to say 'innocent until proven guilty', pfft, not in this country. Most people will never really understand how flawed the system is until they have to go through it themselves.

cops are one of the best things in the world. everything we know and depend on relies on the police. you think im full of here is what it would be like without cops.

want some money rob a bank.
guy pisses you off blow his head off with a shotgun.
want som sex rape some chick.
drive as fast as you want and run over as much people as you can. its fun.
take whatever house you want and slaughter whoever lives there.
want a car? pick your favorite and drag the person out and blow his head off with a shotgun.

sound like fantasy well tell that to a guy in somalia. no cops its a free for all. they would all love to live here. non of us would want to live there. thank god for cops.

Who are you trying to fool? Banks DO get robbed. People DO get shot. Women DO get raped. People DO get run over. Cars DO get stolen. These things happen EVERY DAY. You think the police prevent any of that? They pick up the pieces afterwards maybe. If you're going to sit on the computer all day, at least check out some of the news websites so you dont make an ass out of yourself every time you open your mouth.

you bring up somalia and bosnia... we dont live there. We live in canada where its the police's duty to enforce the law. I know for a fact that the majority of police do their job and do it well...

that being said, It is also their duty to enforce the law WHILE obeying the law and bringing honour to the police service... there are the few who do not do this... ur comparison to bosnia and somalia is useless... IN CANADA its not acceptable to have corrupt police simply cuz some thirdworld nation doesnt have cops, you cant say its ok because ppl got it worse in other places...that doesnt apply to anything

with that same thinking i could say: Hey lets have the prime minister cut all our wages and keep 15% off the top for himself. Its ok because some other country has it worse with a dictator who takes all their money and kills people. bad comparisons

I have witnessed a minority of police officers who take pleasure in others misfortunes, break the law themselves and harass law abiding people. I say again >>> only a few of them.

And moosexing would have us believe that the police are impervious to temptation to break the law and go on power trips. Since when did police officers become non human. They are people just like the rest of us. They have the same flaws, they get greedy, selfish, jealous, violent like any person.

Now my only solution to this problem is more police accountability. Meaning when you go and report an officer, the complaint is taken seriously and not tucked under the rug. Myself and others I know have filed complaints before only to never hear about it again. One friend even gets harassed by the officer he complained about. There must be a system to govern the police that is PRACTICAL

goddamn that was a lot of typing... but ive thought a lot about this.. im thinking as an individual the only thing i could do on a 1person scale is to become a cop....

WHOAAAA...hold the horses here.....All I did was find a clip on the NET and post for perusal and another possible view point that most of us never would have thought of AND since then learned that this document apparently might or might not be written by the alledged author

I agree with everything....there are always the BAD EGGS in every job/career/profession.......from professional sports.........to MCDonalds.......to politicians..........ETC
