Just received 2 tickets, No muffler and Failure to provide valid insurance card

First off as luck would have it I was going into the shop TOMORROW to install a muffler that was sitting in the trunk! I even informed the officer if they wanted to see the muffler heh.

Second ticket I HAVE insurance just didn't have the newest insurance card on me as it just expired in oct and I'm awaiting my new card to arrive. Anyhow the female officer called my insurance company to confirm my insurance was valid but still gave me a ticket.

She mentioned to me that these tickets carry no point lost and they are just mechanical/technical tickets that can be easily fought in court (she even encouraged that I do and told me how to get off) and bring my muffler repair receipt and my newest insurance card.

My question to you all is do these tickets affect my insurance rates at all? and will these be easily throw out as the officer mentioned?

Thanks

My take on it:

Both these cites would have likely been dismissed by the Crown if you went down and showed him your slip and muffler receipt right away IF they were either one OR the other. The fact she wrote two tells me she knows the Crown is most likely going to offer to drop one charge if you plead guilty to the other (plea bargaining).

She could have easily written you a $10 fix-it ticket for the muffler, but she knew you would take the insurance slip ticket to the Crown and have it dismissed. NOW she at least gets ONE ticket registered.

If I were you, I would try VERY hard to get the Crown to drop both, showing him your corrected documentation, ASAP!! Call the court listed on your tickets and ask when you can come in to speak with the Crown Prosecutor. He may be willing to deal over the phone, but I prefer face-to-face negotiations whenever possible.

Note: My insurance DOUBLED once, due to not having my pink slip with me, which was treated as a second violation within 3 years (had a speeding ticket 2 years prior). So don`t treat these as minor if you want to avoid any possible insurance hits!

i agree...take the receipt and slip asap and show the crown...if need be take it to court...my buddy got the same two tickets in toronto beside humber college, and he fought them; both were dropped in court two days ago.
if you take it to court, you also have the possibility of the officer not showing up, then they will get dropped immidiatley....

good luck

Thanks,

I have both my newest insurance pink slip and my receipt for the muffler repair in possession right now. I'll be calling the number at the back on Monday to speak to the crown or schedule a court date.
