Messed Up!

Okay let me start off by stating that I am not from Toronto, I'm from Wasaga Beach, therefore I dont drive here very much. Well I had my car a school this week and went to go pick up my girlfriend last night in Richmond Hill. So I decided to take hwy #7.

On my way back I was just cruizing in the car talking to her when I came to a red light. A cop had pulled up beside me, and when the light turned green he waited back for a minute and just as I thought, he pulled me over. He did the usual "license and registration" bullshit and then he asked me if I knew how fast I was going and what the speed limit was, pointing to a 60 km/h sign (I almost killed myself since I thought it was an 80 km/h zone) I then asked him "back where? I was at a red light?" He said 3 lights back near some road. I said I didnt know since I didn't drive in the city that much. He then got all pissed off showed me on the radar that he clocked me at 112 km/h and stated I was speeding in and out of cars...Funny I dont recall that!

Anyways now I am sitting here typing this with a 112km/h in a 60 km/h zone ticket, with a court date for November 17 2005-4 days after my birthday, and missing school to go. Now I have never done anything wrong in my life exceot get a few other speeding tickets, I'm in school, trying to get a life for myself, and I end up with this bullshit...now any advice people?

P.S. THE POLICE!

I dont know man...is it a yellow ticket? Vaughan region?

because as far as I know if its anything 49kph and over its a blue ticket, blu ticket means automatic court appearance to explain why you were doin 49 over the limit and to convince the judge to allow you to keep your licence to keep driving.....

another reason to install an in car camera that records your speed, heading, and traffic condition...

riiight ... the next time you're in trouble and require the police, i doubt you'll be telling them to off :smilie_au

as for your ticket, since you already have a court date i'm assuming you got an immediate summons. if that's the case, i'd go out and hire a GOOD traffic lawyer, not one of those agents like x-coppers since they're utterly useless in my opinion. be ready to fork over $$$ for this service, but go around to different ones, most will offer free consultations and just ask them what they will do, what they can do, and so forth.

btw, i like how you ended your entry with "Now I have never done anything wrong in my life exceot get a few other speeding tickets .."

maybe you should learn from your mistakes, especially when you're a newbie driver at 18, good luck.

Saw one on hurontario tonight weaving in and out of traffic. Like so bad he could of caused a prety big pile up. And today I book my court date the cop told me to adress him as "SIR". Adress you as oink oink next time.

Yeah I've seen a few in my area. One flew past my house at probably 120 km/h in a 50. It's too bad that cops know they can do it to us but we cant so it to them. They go 120 in a 50 they're getting lunch. We're doing 20 or 30 over and we're causing trouble!

And yes it was a yellow ticket "Kick Ass Matt"

Anything 50kph over the speed limit or more is an automatic court summons. The colour of the citation doesn't matter.

You've been summoned for a hearing, not a trial. You can attend the hearing and speak to the prosecutor to see if he's willing to reduce the charge. If not, you can decide at that time to take the matter to trial. You will be assigned a trial date.

From there you're probably best to hire an advocate (X-Copper, Pointts, lawyer, etc.)

yea but you dont seem to understand that cops are trained to drive like that and also they are more then likely going somewhere

btw i know this doesn't help but i dont think i believe your story cops don't just pick cars out at random to give tickest like that to

The problem is that some of the cops abuse the priveledge of driving like that. I've seen them flip on the lights to go through intersections, only to pull in and stop for a break. A few of them make it bad for the rest. Our resident cop here, hasn't been here for a while...I pmed him, but he hasn't logged on. As for pulling over cars, it's not like they have many choices around TO. I usually do 15 over on the 401, and I get lights flashed at me, people tailgating, etc. And I'm speeding already. People need to get there asses out of bed 15 minutes earlier, so they are not in such a goddamn rush all the time. CALM THE DOWN PEOPLE!!! Most of you are going to have a heart attck from stress before you're 50.

With you 100% on that one... you can cruise on the 401 at 120 and never get pulled over -- it'll be the guy flashing his highbeams and tailgating at 140 getting the tickets.

Yeah but the problem is, I see them all the time in the winter, sliding all over, and hitting the divider, and they still don't slow down. I don't car if he wants to kill himself, but the other people around him, myself included, want to go home and see their wife and kids. The cube van that I drive will easily do over 120, but I'm not about to go faster than that, risk getting a ticket, and losing my job.

so long as you're not driving 115 in the passing lane and NOT passing another vehicle, than i don't see why anyone would high beam you.

i drive on the 401 quite a lot going from toronto to kingston, and i absolutely hate it when people drive slow in the passing lane, i high beam people all the time when they do this and yes, i do tailgate people. if you're not passing someone, than you should yield to the right, it's not a friendly reminder, it's the law.

I rarely go into the passing lane, and when I do, it's pedal to the metal until I get past the person I'm passing. But people still run up my ass at 120+. That there is no excuse for.
