No insurance??

Hi guys i need your inputs on my situation, i driving one of my dad's car up here in toronto, and suddenly the insurance called and they won't insure me anymore because of my records, i was insured under my dad's name and now only my dad is insured. Does that me i can't drive this car anymore, and what would happen if i get pulled over, or even worse what would happen if i get into a car accident? If you anyone knows anything please let me know. Any kind of help is greatly appriciated. Thanks

meh.. if you drive his car with his slip you got nothing to worry bout really ..but if its your own car and no pink slip then ummm watch out..

i think its like this... their covering the car not the driver

isnt that how it is?

I'm sure good ole common sense prevails in this situation.

If stopped you will able to produce a valid insurance card and that is all that police are typically concerned about.

Now, if you get involved in an collision while driving, you have obviously been notified that you are not covered under the policy is where the problem will lie. The insurance will then not cover any damage or liability for this collision....so any repairs to your vehicle, any liens against your vehicle or any liability civil lawsuits involved after the fact and years later will not be covered. Possibly the other person involved insurance company could notify the police and you might also get charged with driving without insurance, which would be the least of your worries if you are being sued for $50k plus.

I think I'd be walking or biking to my destination rather than incurring a civil lawsuit, then paying for the rest of my life.

Obviously you are somewhat of a greater hazard on the road, otherwise you would have insurance.

now thats a dumb assumption... lets forget the fact that if your young and are unfortunate to live in the gta, your insurance rates are unreasonable high even with a clean record.... what a hazard all young ppl in the gta must be eh?

let me rephrase for you... obviously insurance rates for young drivers in the gta are absurdly high, otherwise you would have insurance...

there we go, that sounds a little more correct

its simple...

if you live at the same address as your father you CANNOT drive the car. you are not insured and will deserve a tire iron to the face if you hit someone.

however,

if you live at an address different than your father you can drive his car all you want (all of your ID must have the different address on it, and be prepared to be able to prove it if the insurance investigator checks it out)

insurance

the same thing happened to me... and ya..

what ^^^^^^^^^^^^ HE ^^^^^^^ said is rite. the thing is i think you have to be over 25 for that factor to fly... i mean, you'd have to be 25 and living at a different address for the officer to not give you a ticket. otherwise you will be fined for having no insurance.

i THINK that's the way it goes.

Sounds a lot better! And I agree, rates are way too high.

however, the JonDeSol did have a remark about his "record" being the reason for cancellation

Quite a few insurance companies offer a discount if you agree not to allow anyone under the age of 25 to drive the vehicle. I know for a fact that police in my area have checked for coverage when a valid pink slip was produced. In other words, when the driver is under 25 and its not their car the insurance company is contacted after the fact.

As long as you have a valid driver's liscense, there is nothing wrong with you driving your Dad's car as long as he permits you.

If you get into an accident, the insurance will go after your father and not you.... because he is allowing you to drive the car. But if you get a ticket for it, it will still go on your permanent record and against your driver's abstract.
