Pressed to speed on hwy.....by off duty cop????

I am looking to find people (of the racer stereotype) that have been forced to drive

faster by someone tailing in a civic, then getting pulled over by a cop. Best of all is

finding out that the guy who was tailgating was an off duty police officer... if anyone

has experienced this or knows of someone who has, please msg me. This information

could be useful.

thanks

i'm assuming this happend to you? wanna tell us the story so we could help u out?

E-Z-OUT 04-11-2008 02:00 PM

If this happens to anyone out there do the right thing slam on your brakes. So far it's worked for me you should see the look on there faces when you do that.
By any chance they are an off duty cop all you can say is see your ass in court for tailgating.

I know most of you guys out there don't want to damage your rides but cops are getting stupit and provoking young drivers to race and then have them pulled over for racing.
This happens in the states and they always find one or two young drivers willing to race for kicks.

Curious about the situation. Details?

VWJettaMK2 04-11-2008 05:02 PM

If this happened to you, then go to court. Its against the law for a police officer(on duty or not) to make you go faster. This is called entrapment. Look it up.

Weather we have the full story or not, you still shouldnt be going faster. You have every right to switch out of the lane, so if you got a speeding ticket, its most likely your fault for speeding.

Hatchsicle 04-11-2008 05:13 PM

Happened to me before, it was a beat up 94ish caravan on my ass on a one lane road. I was doing 80 already in a 70 zone and the van was on my bumper. I dropped a gear and got up to about 95 just to put some space between us and an unmarked crown vic behind the van went into oncoming to get behind me and pulled me over. The two vehicles left together after I got my 20 over speeding ticket. Still paying my insurance company out my ass for that one.

ChirsRattintegra 04-15-2008 04:56 AM

I was driving on the 401 to oakville doin about 130- 140 with most of the cars in the left lane...the day started out bad in general with me getting into an arguement with my girl, and when this guy was on my ass, i did hit the brakes, but then i sped up to get away. Even tho i did that, he followed me into each lane that i chose....so after about 7 km of this guy following me in the civic, i seen an opp cruiser waiting on the top of this on-ramp and as soon as i passed, the cruiser ripped it out, came behind that civic who then pulled to the side to let the cop go behind me. thats when i knew it was over.... The cop charged me with a dangerous and and racing... he said that he was goin to be nice and not give me a ticket for speeding 160 in a posted 100 lol....and ya i know its my mistake for putting myself in that situation, but im sure most of us have done something of that nature...... Thanks for the posts.....

msequence 04-15-2008 09:40 AM

if a civic was pushing me on the high way I would let it pass by. IF he was following me i would exit the first exit. If buddy would follow me to a gas station etc. and presented him self as a off duty cop. I would tell him to get lost and drive away. No cruiser no uniform no badge get lost. Why you driving 160KmH anyways?

why does anyone drive 160 or more?? and unless ur put in a situation on the spot, i doubt ud come up with that conclusion anyway.....and to answer ur question, he was riding my ass, and my gf had pissed me off before i hit the road

GinoBeats 04-20-2008 02:22 AM

I thought that slamming on the brakes was cause for a fine under the same law that was passed last fall, along with turning left on a 'just turned green' light with no advance and traffic facing you in the other lane across the intersection

s.jiddy 04-24-2008 03:55 PM

ive done that

coszmin 04-29-2008 07:51 AM

he's driving 160 because 160 is a regular speed for a competent driver to be cruising at, on the highway ... maybe i'm just biased because i live in europe , but that's how is here . if you can't drive over 110 stay the **** off the highway :)

So keep that retarded driving of yours out of Canada. :dunno:

Nevada 05-08-2008 04:43 AM

If the driving tests here were a lot more strict the way they are in continental Europe, we could easily handle 160km here. Most of the people on the road here either don't have the skill for it (despite thinking they do) or their car is a piece of crap that would be scrapped in Europe for safety violations.

Those are the 2 real reasons why high speed limits won't work here at the present time.

420guy 09-10-2008 03:50 AM

Yes hitting your brakes while someone is tailgating you will get you a ticket!!!! BTW just curious how someone can FORCE you to drive faster??

judgez24 09-10-2008 07:44 AM

**** that, a dog/kid/cat/large piece of garbage got in your path and you hit thebrakes to avoid hitting it. let someone try to prove you wrong. the law says you gotta leave a big gap, if your being tail gated and you get rear ended its not your fault

pg29 09-10-2008 03:42 PM

yep, brake check FTW. the person rear ending you is always at fault. no ifs ands or buts.

D-BesT 09-10-2008 03:48 PM

Hitting ur brakes when someone is tailgating will not get you a ticket. If it can be proven (depends on witnesses, etc), it'll end up with a criminal charge... but then again, it depends on all the situation in totality.

judgez24 09-10-2008 11:47 PM

thats why you say somethign ran out infront of you and you hit the brakes. law says what, 3 car lengths on the hiway is what you need to keep? not 12 inches.

And if you get caught lying on the stand, you get purgery as well as dangerous drive.

pg29 09-11-2008 05:15 PM

LOL caught, how are they gonna get proof showing there was nothing in front of you? You're a funny guy, D BEST. Unless you do it to a police cruiser (which has a camera mounted forward) showing you hit the brakes for no reason, then the person has nothing, your word against theirs. Words aren't proof. They were too close, and thats why they hit you, not because you hit your brakes "too hard" for no reason.

judgez24 09-12-2008 07:43 AM

peoepl run into traffic all the time. peple hit on the hiways all the time aswell, you hit th ebrakes to avoid hitting something. they have to prove you did it on purpose and explain why there were 12 inches off your bumper and not 3 car lengths behin you like theyre required to be

try getting one cause a guy was tailgating so bad he hit you. doing 140km/h. told the cop i slammed my brakes.

brianb 09-14-2008 01:59 AM

if someone is tailing you all you got to do is slow down to a 100km (or the speed limit for the road that you are on), just try to time in in such a way that it blocks the guy in between a few cars so he is stuck going the limit. That will piss him off good. No sense slamming on your bakes cuz that could get you hurt. You wont get a ticket cuz how are they going to prove what was happening in front of your car? They cant see through your car, and if they say they can look through the window then you tell them they should have been looking at your lights, and not following so close. Come on we all know most cops are stupid clowns looking for a reason to be dicks to someone because they got picked on in school, but there is no sense risking getting hurt yourself because some ass clown cop is trying to make his ticket quota for the month. By the way, if I were you I would fight the ticket. I use Redline legal services and so far they have been pretty good. Also, get a copy of the hwy traffic act, you will be surprised on a lot of the stuff that you can get away with once you read that book. Out of curiosity did the cop have you on radar doing 160km?
