Question About Impact of Ticket
 

So, I got a ticket today.

These are the details:

Offence: Prohibited Left Turn
Contrary To: Metropolitan Toronto By-Law 32/92, Section 39 (1)
Total Payable: $18.75 (Set Fine: $3.75)

The money is obviously not the issue here (fine < $20, not a big deal)

However, what I am concerned about is the impact of the ticket. The officer said he 'reduced' the ticket, so that I would not get any demerit points and that it would not go on my driving record.

Is this true?? Will it really not go on my driving record (or was the BS)? I am very concerned about my insurance, so my question is, IF I plead guilty and pay this ticket, will my insurance company ever find out about it?

Would you suggest fighting the ticket?

if you are very concerned about your insurance then you shouldnt have made the left turn when you wernt allowed..

go to court talk to the police officer and if he says its reduced plead guilty or you can always ple bargain n make sure u dont get points

Points or not, ANY charge will be registered with the Ministry of Transportation and will be accessible to your insurance company. Most insurance companies will allow 1 ticket in 3 years without an increase. You should ask your insurer what their policy is. If they don't give 1 freebe.. fight the ticket. You'd hate to see a $1000 annual insurance increase over a lousy $20 fine.

goin to court and plea bargining doesnt get rid of the points. the JP cant give you the ticket but not the points...thats all up to the ministry for the points....if you plead guilty you will get the points that follow....

You don't Plea Bargain with the JP. You go in and talk to the Crown Attorney BEFORE the trial. He has the authority to change the charge to a completely different charge, such as improper muffler (a no-point charge). If you both agree to the Plea, the charge is amended and you pay the fine.

If you don't accept his offer, you plead not-guilty and wait for a trial date. Try hard to think up a defense because you just might find the puniest of tickets will result in an insurance increase
