Should I fight this ticket?

I was doing 100 in a 50 zone on airport rd by the airport as the speed suddenly changes from 80 to 50. The cop lowered my ticket to 10 over so he gave me a ticket for doing 60 in a 50 zone. Should I fight this ticket? Will it affect my insurance? Do you guys think a cop would show up to court for a $40 ticket?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The speed wouldn't "suddenly" change if you were driving a little slower to start with or maybe you misread the sign that said "80km/hr MAXIMUM"

If drivng the limit of 80km/hr and see the "50km ahead sign" take the foot of the gas and 90% of the time you will drop to the new speed limit.

*************
Depending on your area, police are scheduled for court on their working time or better yet on days off so they claim OT at 1 1/2times or about $50-60 per hour, who wouldn't show up for that. Not to mention you have to take time off work or school, travel to court etc for a $40 ticket, weigh the odds of getting off the ticket (50% officer won't show, then 50% you could win) as compared to your costs.

not to mention they can re-introduce the original fine.

130km/hr pace on 401 series. Dropped to 115km/hr and fought. Trial judge convicted on original speed. Accused appealed and lost.

$40 ticket. Just pay the fine and consider yourself lucky.

I got caught doing 87 in a 50, got no reduction and had to fight it for 2 years through delays and . Ended up finally getting a $45 fine. You got off easy my friend, the cop was being nice.

Viperoni 03-02-2005 09:46 PM

I agree, just pay it.

Mazdazoom 03-03-2005 03:28 AM

if ur not loosing any pts then pay it

Streetthispgt 03-03-2005 09:58 AM

Thanks for the replies everyone. Ya I think I might aswell just be better of paying it. Will this ticket affect my insurance however? I'm not worried about the ticket as I know $40 is not a lot, the reason why I wanted to fight it is just so my insurance rate wouldnt go up.

Thanks.

^ I have received two 10 over tickets (obviously both cops reduced them for me) over the past 6 months and my insurance has not increased because of them, so far anyways.

Do the tix show up on the section of your renewal where it says what tickets you have?

From what I understand insurance cmpanies don't regularily check for tickets unless you are a new policy older or make a claim. It apparently costs tem money to check now. Dunno for sure though.

For those on facility Rule 25

insurace rates will not change until it is time to renew

I'd say file the ticket with the court, get a court date, send a registered letter to the CA office asking for disclosure, and take it to trial.
If the cop shows up, oh well, plead guilty and be done with it. At least you made them work for your money. If the cop doesn't show up, 99% likely the CA will drop the charge. We pay enough tax as it is, don't pay more than you have to.

yea airport in malton is a bitch.. (i'm assuming thats where it was) goes from 80 to 70 (70 for less than a km, maybe even half) then down to 50... and airport itself southbound goes from 80 to 50 and northbound, 60 to 50.... the road is completely open and it's all commercial around it... 3 lanes both ways.. no reason to be 50 other than to hand out tickets

gsrjay 03-21-2005 09:38 AM

Bring it to court, the cop may not show up.....what do you have to lose...and no they can't re-introduce the original fine
