speeding in Georgia....

Got pulled over doing 93 in a 70 south of Atlanta. Paid the $380US fine/bond. I have the option of going to court next month. Should i go? Getting the cash back is not a concern, because it will probably cost that much anyways to get to court. This offence apearing on my driver abstract is of concern. Will the state of Georgia communicate with Ontario?

jhungly 11-24-2005 09:44 AM

nonono the US has no jurisdiction over Ontario.. Just as long as you pay for it you will be ok.. if you dont pay for it and you get caught in the state they will arrest ya! I asked the cop he said that. thats why they usually pull people like us who are from canada : ( i was going down and everyone was doing the same speed and the po po had to pull me over!!!! GURRRRR paid for it and havent heard from it ever since..

Wrong! If you get a ticket in NY for sure and i think main and whatever is to the west of NY whatever detroit is in, points transfer over, Likewize for them.

But after that its just a fine.

Well I know Georgia isnt part of that american thing where they trade information with other states...

Or even better:

Well i know NY state traffic tickets are transferable, because i had to go to court on Grand Island. Got off that speeding ticket on the second visit. 1st visit they had 3 options, plead guilty, guilty to a lesser charge and 1 day in traffic school, or not guilty and go to court. So i chose court, i went done again a couple weeks later, and the cop didn't show. :veryhappy

So is North Carolina. Was down there for the weekend attending a race. The night before after dinner i "tested" the line loc in the parking lot. Pulling out of the lot, i let it hang through a couple gears. Jumped in the interstate, and out of nowhere a trooper was behind be. Pulled me over gun drawn and waited for backout. Gave me a court citation for careless reckless! He was across the street and had it all on film from his dashboard cam. :nono:

So no fine, because to judge was to figure it out. HAD to appear in court a couple weeks later. If i didn't show the trooper said it would become a federal offence and their would have been a warrant out for my arrest. So no more visiting the USA. So a couple weeks later, drove the 13hrs down and it got reduce to a improper equipment $140US :veryhappy . Otherwise 6 points and $1200US.

I'm calling MTO tommorrow and see if i'll have to make the 18hr trip down on the 28th.

Serious eh? Yeah call em up and keep us posted on what they say. You never know when this might happen to one of us. Good luck.

Orthow 12-15-2005 07:09 PM

Hahah you ever get any tickets up here. Seems like you get alot of PITA tickets that you gotta drive far to defend...

petevw 12-15-2005 07:19 PM

Had a 10 over ticket in '98, and a few no front plate over the years. Called MTO when i got off work at 4pm, and they gave me a 1-800 number that i'll call tommorrow.

petevw 12-19-2005 11:26 PM

I got through today, and was told that as long as i paid the fine, nothing would show on my abstract up here. :veryhappy

I may call again tommorrow, because she was hesitating, didn't sound very confident.

Good news for now.

fastride 12-31-2005 07:29 PM

I got a ticket in the states for speeding. As long as its not in the neiboring states I.E. N.Y. it wont show up on your abstract. I'm 100% sure of this. I didn't bother paying it but I won't be able to show my face (or at least get caught in PA again.)lol. So again your points from GA won't show up on your abstract, I double checked this on the MOT website.

petevw 01-01-2006 02:44 PM

Yes seems like only New York and Michigan State, have the power to stick it on your Ontario abstract. In many cases, you have to pay the bond when pulled over, or the other option is sitting in jail till your court date. So i didn't go down for my court date this past 28th. I'll be down there again in March.

It is true that most officers can make you pay for the fine on the spot but I was lucky that he let me go on my way with my ticket to pay later. hahaha.

newbieracer 01-11-2006 05:58 PM

you know if you dont pay your fines there is a good chance that you WILL not be let back into the us, It happend to the trucker that was moving my stuff down to the states. also how can you pay a $400 fine on the spot lol, do they carry debit machines?

fastride 01-11-2006 10:13 PM

speeding

well that's what im thinking, but even my dad was pulled over before by them and said you pay by credit card or put u in jail until you do. So i was lucky. Im pretty sure you just can't go into that particular state. Im both an american and canadian so they have to let me in. lol
