Unbelievable Police Harassment!!!My Story

I've always heard of police harassing people, but I've never been involved in it ----until last week!!!

This was incredible, I could not believe what happened. Has anyone else been through any police horror stories similar to mine?? PLEASE POST!!!

6:43 on a friday exiting north off of the 410, I realize a police cruiser is signaling me to pull over. I proceed to pull over on the shoulder of the 410 exit.

The police officer approaches my vehicle and immediately says, “you were going 130km/h.” Being 6:43 on a friday, there was still some left over congestion on the highway and not only was I not doing anything over 90 (being that I was exiting), it was also impossible to do 130 when there were multiple cars infront of me. I told the Police Officer that that speed limit was impossible and I was not.

He took my license and insurance and returned eight minutes later asking me to step out of my vehicle. We are still on the highway exit ramp–not the safest place to be walking around I imagine.

As I exit the vehicle (My father’s 1995 ford mustang) The officer questions me about tire residue around my rear bumper. I replied that it was just residue from a cleaning gel and regular tire shred that is expected from a rear wheel drive car and tires on their last miles.

The officer continues by asking me if I’ve been racing, concluding with my tires are as bald as his head. I told him I haven’t been, the car is not mine it’s my fathers and the tires are old. He asked me whether my father knows I have the car. I continued to patiently reply to all these pointless questions as he continues asking me questions about drugs and where I’ve been doing brake stands to ruin the tires.

45 minutes later he hands me back my insurance and insurance and says “here you go speed racer, when I catch you doing brake stands I’m impounding your car and taking your license”

I was pulled over for nothing. Harassed for 45 minutes about nonsense, and insulted in the end for him wasting my time. And for the record, I have no traffic violation or accident in my seven years of driving. Nor did I ever do brake stands in my dads baby of a car.

darkevilsta 08-26-2008 04:26 PM

lol tires were as bald as his head. i bet the life of your tires and his bald head arent different. there flat and so is his head and i bet all that tire residue is just how stupider he got day by day. its like his brain just evaporated. this is just plain stupid

sovereign 08-27-2008 04:31 PM

No one else has any stories?? I am the only one who gets harassed like this???

ryzryd 08-27-2008 05:33 PM

I put 18's on my car and I keep getting cops looking my way.
Good thing it's not tinted or has a loud exhaust! Yet...

D-BesT 09-03-2008 05:39 PM

Just FYI if your tires were balled, it's reason enough for a police officer to pull you over, charge you and tow your vehicle away.

sovereign 09-16-2008 10:06 PM

so if my tires are bald that's reason enough? that is ridiculous.

My tires have thread on them, it's not like they have been worn down to slicks.
this is profiling, and THATs not right.

MOTOXRCR 09-17-2008 12:26 AM

As wrong as it is, you drive a fast car, big truck, low hot rod, etc. for attention. You get attention good and bad. Fact of life.

I've always driven lifted jeeps (since I was 18, i'm 24 now) and have been bothered for YEARS. The idea s to be as legal as possible when they pull you over and tell a straight story. Cops are usually only as rude to you as you are to them. Even if they get off on the wrong foot, be pleasant and follow the rules. It's pretty simple. You drive flashy cars you're gonna get noticed. And rightfully so, it's odds. If you were in a Neon odds are he'd have nothing to go on. Most cops see young guys with nice rides and assume they're drug dealers.

Dimitri 09-22-2008 12:05 AM

Ask for his supervisor to come on site, and see if his supervisor concurs with the "drug-dealer" analogy. ****in Peel region.

get a good lawyer, invest some time and money into this case and find out every charge you can use against the officer. and heres the number for the toronto star, try and attract some publicity you wont belive how much it helps. you might even end up with some kind of compensation, good luck

yeh im all for the laws.....but cops abuse their authority.....thts pretty much why a lotta ppl hate cops

D-BesT 10-01-2008 07:34 PM

remember guys, there are 2 sides to each story.

There could be details that the author of the origional author left out, or even possibly changed. (not calling u a liar).

For all we know, he could of only been stopped for 15 minutes, but because of the stress, felt like 45 minutes.

He could of also failed to include into the origional post if he had a criminal bg, and the cop was just trying to make sure he wasn't breaking any conditions, etc.

Or, he could be right, and the cop was being an and stopping him for an unnecessary time.

You'll only know for yourself if you were on scene, that day, at that specific time.

I've only been pulled over 3 times in my life. Once for absolutely nothing, and twice because I was speeding. The time I was pulled for absolutely nothing was at 12:00 AM, a Peel cop pulled me over and asked for my DL . 5 minutes later (real time) he came back to me and let me go. But I can tell you, it felt like that 5 minutes was actually 25 minutes.

TrepNick 10-02-2008 11:18 AM

There is always 2 sides to the story. I would of asked for a superviser.

smith_ 10-02-2008 06:38 PM

The first thing you should have done (especially if you knew you were not breaking any laws) would be to ask to see a badge and take down his badge number. Then go and file a complaint.

itsbudda 10-02-2008 10:22 PM

man that sucks. I got pulled over and ticketed for "rapid acceleration" while pulling away from a stop light. I was doing 25. Maybe I pulled away a little fast, but not like it was ticket worthy. But yours is full of more bull. Maybe that cop looked in the mirror and got pissed off at all people that aren't bald.

civicboi 12-16-2008 08:03 PM

yeah, I had a souped up civic and got pulled over 21 times in a year, the one cop that didnt like me gave me 2 tickets (red light that was green) go ahead don't believe me but I was there and know, and another for having no light on my rear bodykit revealling my licence plate it was 10:30pm. I have one that I just kind of laughed off, a Niagara Regional Police car flashed his lights and pulled me over (for nothing just routine for them by now considering it was around my 18th pull over). He gets out of his car and comes up gun drawn and opens my door and says "get the **** out" so I did he was searching me then proceeded to search my car for drugs and guns. He instructed me to walk over to (my friend) the bitch cop, yes she was a girl. When I turn around no word of a lie I had like 20 guns in my face and her searching me, saying she "saw me with the gun!". I just laughed at them because I think Canadian cops can't just gun you down. There's a couple more stories if you want more. Your experience was complete bullshit but I have some REALLY bad ones.

P.S. Just don't put a stupid loud exhaust on unless you have power and need it!.

Evidently, he had a reason to pull you over. People need to realize that a cop has the authority to pull you over on a mere suspicion that you may have broken or will break a law. And, by you trying to prove how wrong he was to begin with, probably pissed him off more and didn't help the situation. If you knew you had done nothing wrong, shut your mouth, take the ticket, and fight it.

Firstly, if he had his gun drawn, you would've been arrested guaranteed. Police officers aren't just idiots with guns that drive around looking to bust people's balls. They obviously had gotten information regarding you having a firearm in your possession.

Secondly, if they were searching you for drugs, they wouldn't have drawn their weapons.

Thirdly, there is no way you had "20 guns in your face". What you're describing is what happens in the US. No police service in Canada sends that many officers as backup to roadside search. Maybe like 3 other officers, but not 20.

Do you actually believe that this bullshit attitude towards authority proves anything? Does it make you cool around all your little ****tard buddies? No it doesn't. The only thing it proves is that you never got a good taste of discipline when you were younger.

Next time someone hits your mom or steals your , call a crackhead.... see how much he cares.

Have to love some fool with an Equinox speaking as though he has a clue. 50 bucks says you vote liberal or NDP because clearly, you believe in law enforcement officers running rampant with ZERO regulation. Newsflash: The police should be accountable for their actions - To the general public but even more importantly, to the civilians that they WRONGFULLY accuse of illegal activity. I don't give a flying **** if you want to make the argument that they "have the right" to pull somebody over due to some unbased suspicion(in other words, 9 times out of 10). To not only myself, but the majority of the people on this board, it's a violation of our rights and it's a prime example of law enforcement officers NOT doing their job; and that is to enforce the laws of the land. Have to love leftist swine who don't even value their own freedoms.

lol hondacrack, nice story hahaha

Umm as a citizen you have a right to ask for badge number, and division. If you are refused write down the cruiser licence plate. Make sure to have paper and pen handy to describe the officers look, and critical features for your report, the area you were pulled over and recount the situation as it happens and make sure to record the circumstances as they happend fresh. Sign and date the account. If the officer refuses to provide you his badge number, or show you the badge number, and tell you his division, remember the general area you were pulled over at, this way you can do some research to at least find out what division is servicing that area. Make sure to record that he did not give you his identifiers on your report account at the scene. Always have paper.. I know its hard to do but first of all do not panic, they can pull you over at any time. The key is not to panic, be fresh and remember and witness everything like a hawk, and answer only when asked, and very briefly to the point. Than file a citizen's complaint report, make sure to bring evidence to the police station.

Trust me 9 out of 10 times.... police - not all .. but some adrenaline junkeys pray on the panic and intimidation that their sirens and cruiser emit on the public(SHOCK effect), just remain calm relaxed and answer just to the point. Keep a clear head, and always write down what happened fresh, cops have to do a report too. I have seen cops grilled at court cases for not being able to recount clearly what happened, and any inconsistancies regard suspicion on both parties. I seen a judge ridicule a cop for presenting inadequate evidence.. it was funny .

Hope this helps.

thread has been cleaned up.

itsbudda 12-22-2008 12:45 PM

Wow. That was interesting.

I guess back on the subject of police harrassment, while driving my lebaron (sport car i guess), I made the misfortune of not seeing a flashing school zone sign. I really can't argue the ticket. I was doing 37 mph in a school zone (speed limit 20.) I thought it was during off hours and the speed limit was 35. But i was wrong, and accept the ticket, even though I was pretty much following the flow of traffic. I was annoyed that I was the one that was singled out,

This was back in feb 08 so the exact conversation is kinda fuzzy, but this is about the gist of it.

Stereotypical "do you know how fast you were going? It's a school zone." I calmly stated, "I'm sorry, I didn't see the sign. I didn't know it was a school zone." Well, the cop the started screaming at me. "YEAH LIKE YOU DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS A SCHOOL ZONE, WHEN YOU'RE FLYING PAST ALL THESE LITTLE KIDS! THAT'S BULL! TELL ME YOU DIDN'T KNOW!" He called me reckless or something to that extent. But the whole time I'm thinking, what kids? The sidewalks were bare. I mean what the ****. He wrote me a 140 dollar ticket and told me to slow down and I was on my way.

The Don 12-22-2008 01:09 PM

My wife knows the stories, been with me a couple times they've happened. i laugh it off, we all have our ignorant work days. Just keep in mind, they wake up in hopes to come back home at the end of their shift.. We all do, but we all don't have a history where our work as involved one of our peers being shot due to a routine traffic stop.

sovereign 02-16-2009 10:54 AM

And it was actually 45 minutes. I knew this because we missed the first showing of movie we were going to see.

secondly, cops do need to be held accountable. Im glad that officer was charged under the "street racing" law and punished. the officer is no different then the rest of us.
