97 golf tdi needs more power..gimme a hand
 
ok so my buddy just asked me 2 help him get a little more cheap power outa his 97 tdi 1.9L 5speed.
whats the best thing to do to start, i havent worked on a vw in a few years so i dont know what the best products / mods are for it right now, someone help please. not so much looking for mods to change the look of the car, just power.

Well TDI's arent ment to be fast so dont be looking for something insane. They come stock with 90HP and roughly 150lbs/TQ.

There are chips out there that will give you roughly 10-15HP and 30-40TQ. Full exhaust, including downpipe, and bigger injectors(forgot what they are called for the diesels.)

You could also do a intake, but I doubt you'd see any real HP.

Upgrade the turbo. I forget which model it is, but you can make around 190 - 200 whp if tuned correctly.

i had used to have a 1999.5 2.0
put some work into it and it kept up alright. i broke 15's at the track LOL.
then i moved onto a 2002 1.8t
