opinion please
Got an email response to my truck add just now from a guy asking if I was willing to trade for a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8 turbo.
Not too many details yet except for lowered with 18"rims and winter tires ,leather,heated seats fully loaded. What are some things to look out for on this car? How is the reliability? Any comments about these cars appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
Only real major issue which you should find out is when the timing belt was done. Every 100xxxKM it has to be done. If it hasnt been done, dont touch it. 1.8T's are very reliable. No major issues with them. Like any motor though some parts go due to wear and tear. Make sure he was using synthetic oil.
Ive got a 2000 1.8T Jetta with 237xxxKM and it runs better then most 1.8T's. Proper maintainance goes along way. 02's came with the 180HP AWP motor, 20v turbo. Very easy to mod and somewhat cheaper then any other VW motor. They do require at least 91octane enless they are chipped in which case 94octane only. If it is running properly, with 94 octane there is no reason why you shouldnt see 525+KM city driving and over 600KM highway. |
great info.

Yea and if you play your cards right you can eventully make your motor look like this;
Attachment 161894 Thats the worlds highest HP 1.8T. 707whp :) Daily driver. 8000K RPM Redline @ 14psi. When its at the track it see's 9000K RPM and 35psi of boost. :) |
^^^^ that's overkill.
I think the OP is just wanting basics, not super highly modified. |
