VW Rabbit 16V

Sup everyone.. nicer, cleaner new forums.. but to the point .. i looking at buying a VW rabbit and droping a 16v into it .. and i was wondering at how much labor ..and in the end how fast it might actually be.
Willing to take anyones insightful opinions..

General 02-12-2005 03:51 PM

you want N/A.... well your not goin to get the HP gains like a Turbo 16V... but im sure you cn put something around 170 with a fully done 16v

powered_by_a_rabbit 02-12-2005 08:12 PM

ya ... i was thinking of keeping it none turbo .. for now at least.. its a rabbit when there fully gutted they weight 1800lbs and with 170bhp it wil fly.

NOTORIOUS VR 02-12-2005 08:28 PM

That rabbit in u'r sig looks nice!! do u have the link do that car domain site u got it from? I'd like to see some other pics.

I especially like the Porsche mirrors

skillton 02-13-2005 01:21 AM

If you drop a stock engine/tranny it should be running high 14s with no weight reduction.
With some cams, p&p'ed head, header, and good fueling they've gone mid 13s on slicks.

5.0_capri 02-13-2005 06:01 PM

UMMMM
im guessin that with a 16v engine n tranny in a rabbit
it can be runnin bout low 14s high 13s

FUUUUUUUCK HONDA

zapodlo 02-16-2005 01:03 AM

saying whats up to all the people that waste their life away here!

Anyway, my friend has a rabbit like that one, except the one pictured looks a lot better, anyway he droped a 16V in it, had some work done to fuel variation, suspension, also, had it tuned. His hitting mid 13s,
Pretty quick, now his thinking of a transplating the mkiv vr6 engine into it, and buying a supercharger. After everything said and done he should be hitting mid to low 11s. 1000lb car+vr6=fast vdub.

AMERICAN_MUSCLE 02-16-2005 07:11 PM

K he needs help not compliments on his picture

HELP THIS EN GUY

Rabbits are getting harder to find now days, it'll be hard to find one in good condition for a good price. 16v engines usually go for under $500 for the 2L's.
To answer your question about the labour:
The mechanical part can be done in a day or 2. Taking out the original engine won't take that long, a few hours with the proper tools.
You'll need scirocco 16v mounts and scirocco 16v exhaust manifold and downpipe
The wiring can be a bit of a bitch tho. If you get a 2L 16v and use the CIS-E Motronic injection that comes with it it'll be even harder. You can also use regular CIS-E that comes in scirocco 16v's, but it's meant for 1.8L's and runs lean up top, if you decide to use CIS-E, you'll also need the scirocco intake manifold, and you can make a fuel enrichement module which gives extra fuel @ WOT.

1000lb car eh? Good luck.

biggy 03-01-2005 10:28 PM

if by 1000 he meant 1800 then yes :D

B6T 03-02-2005 12:01 AM

I think a Rabbit with a Supercharger VR6 would be a bit heavier then 1800lbs. My Festiva with full interior and subs in the back weighs in at about 1950lbs with a full tank of gas.

if you are going with a rabbit, forget the 16V, get a G60 motor and dunmp the crappy G-ladder charger for a nice turbo. My buddy was running a stock g60 motor (forged pistons in the bottom end) @15psi on a t3 turbo, and was putting down almost 250 to the wheels with a Quaife LSD. 16V was the way to go in those cars about 8-10 years ago... but with advances in technology, its would be foolish to try to mod one to make power. go turbo 8V and clean house on everyone

skillton 04-30-2005 03:32 PM

Stock 16v with stacked headgaskets will do 300whp on stock block/head. For about the same ammount of $$$ it would cost to build a turbo g60, which would of course make less power.

B6T 04-30-2005 07:59 PM

Either way it will still be slow and go through transmissions faster then 5.ohno goes through whoppers.

biggy 05-01-2005 06:49 PM

man that is such a stereotype

the diffs are weak, so replace the diff with a 900dollar peloquin or quaife diff and you LSD on top, and they are much much better. Not to mention 1.8t and 24v VR trannies are superior to the old ones.

If you mean 020trannies found in mk2-mk3 golf 2Ls and 1.8Ls then your right tho, they are . :hah:

i wouldnt get a g60 tho, people might laugh :smilie_au

edit: btw every other car ive ever seen that was on its way out, or going was usually a honda tranny, GSR, typeR, ive seen SiRs with trannies that are grinding 3rd or cant get into second. And the kicker is, usually these are guys with no real power adders, mostly just near stock or all motor guys with next to no torque

Just cause Evan went thru half a dozen 020 trannies which were designed 30 years ago for 60-100hp cars and cost less than $100 each doesn't mean all vw trannies are like that. He has no problems with his 02a tranny now, and there's also 02J's and 02M's that will handle a lot more power stock.

B6T 05-02-2005 02:23 AM

^ He has no problems now because he babies it.

I'm just yanking your chain about the VWs... I know their transmission have improved, I just like bothering VW guys about it.

biggy 05-02-2005 07:46 AM

btw just for general info, how are mazda trannys?

B6T 05-02-2005 01:36 PM

Depends which Mazda transmission. When I finished the swap into my car, I used the original transmission which was designed for a low output engine that produces no more then 100 ft lbs of torque. Needless to say, I went through three of them in one year. I went out at the end of the season and bolted the slicks on, I was doing 3500rpm launches which resulted in a cracked transmission housing after three passes. Then I swapped in the heavy duty transmission that comes from the factory with the engine I have in the car, called the G25M-R. I have about 50 passes on slicks and about 20,000km of hard city driving on it so far and it hasn't even hinted that there were any problems.

The transmission I have now is the cable operated version of the transmission used in the Mazdaspeed Protege, the MX6/Probe, MX3 V6, Ford Escort, and most other older B-series and K-series engine Mazdas.

rabbitman 05-27-2005 07:33 PM

Here drool over this. I've got an 84 rabbit with 80,000 kms on it, no rust, 2l 16v engine garret t3, 6 psi, stock passat trans, neuspeed engine mounts, stage 1 clutch from neuspeed. The only thing I'm having problems with is cv joints.

karpiak 10-18-2005 06:39 PM

16v rabbit piece of cake...it isnt aby different than putting the same motor in...i dont see how cis-e is hard to install if u want you could even just run cis with no E...thats real easy...i find the cis is better than the cis-e..there are millions of things that you can do to build this car...like a diesel tranny or a 020 tranny..these can help pick-up or top end...you could even take them apart and build one according to the gears and make a sweet tranny!!!! as for engine u might even want to ditch the fuel injection and go with weber's like a set of 45 side drafts..those are perfect and can be matched with a insane set of cams...anything is posible...but as for just an in and out swap it's an instant 14's car!!!

VW are amazing...even just modding a 8v gti engine you can get like 150hp...port/polish...cams...webers..headers...ignition system...etc...

i say dont give up on the project!!! check vwvortex.com
