I think those lights are to tell you when your steering wheel is on centre or turned to a side.
I know it's kind of an apples vs. oranges comparison, but I wish Ferrari would teach Mercedes how to knock a thousand pounds off their SL class cars.
Also, with those F1 transmissions, do the paddles activate some powerful solenoids that pull apart the clutch and springs snap them back, or what? Those transmissions don't have torque converters do they?
