umm yes, idiots.....
let me do a dyno pull in first and my 106 hp civic will put down 300 torque to the wheels in first...
transmissions are torque multipliers....just like your wrench lets u apply 300 lbs of torque to a nut....
let em do that same dyno pull in 4th and see what kind of numbers it puts down...

Tourque is what gets you moving off the line.
Looks to me like they were using some kind of emissions testing dyno

I think they were just screwing around trying to brake the dyno

I said 4th because on MOST transmissions that are standard, the 4th is the ONE TO ONE ratio....so it would show u the torque output of the engine minus the drivetrain loss....
i assumed its a 5 speed, u assume its a 3 speed....in that case he should be doing it in whatever speed is closest to one to one.

I agree that he should be doing it in its one to one gear. Like I posted before, they seemed to be messing around trying to hit the max tq on the dyno.
79 Malibu came with a 3 speed auto. That was standard for the year and still the trans of choice for alot of drag racers. most guys that have these cars and are making big power will replace them with a th400 or th350 3 speed auto since they can handle that kind of power with verry little work and money. Also takess atvantage of the tq the engine makes and dosnt waist the power with unneeded shifts
My guess of the three speed is probably right.
You got to admit though thats some impressive power.
