exactly, having 500-600 hp and still get 22-26 mpg is a very good thing....

even the high hp V6s get moderate fuel mileage compared to the same hp in a big block v8

Yes but with turbocharging becoming more and more mainstream (already the power adder of choice in street legal drag racing) people dont have to grab a factory turbo car anymore to avoid the voo-doo science. Its out there and easier than ever to take any car and add a or twin turbochargers to it. Yes, turbo buicks are very cool but its becoming more and more evident that you still need 8 cylinders (AND Turbo) to take the cake anywhere as the musclecar racers have caught up on the technology. Iam saying its a displacement race all over again
It seems like every cat with a turbo anything smallblock w/ good cylinder heads and fuel control is kicking down the 7-sec and still streetable barrier everyday. Check www.turbomustangs.com Iam in the same boat..and rather than get crazy serious ww/ my car I may go find another 70-72 Duster and go ape on it w/boost.

I agree that Turbocharging is very popular today, there are a few guys that started it all with Turbo buicks that had the nitrous cars covered buy two lenths in the early 90s, when turbo cars were considered voo doo... dare I say the Buicks started or at least help set the ground work for the cars of today. I remeber the early years when the Turbo buicks would drive 3 hours to cayuga or St. thomas and absolutley smoke 80% of the cars that traveled there by trailer. Many of those guys looked at the little v6s scratching their heads, I know cause I was one of them....lol we had a nitrous fed Vega that ran 11.20 all day and the Buicks owned us. I'm sure this happened everywhere. and guys like Buddy Ingersol running Promod, they gave him a real hard time. I'll have to post his storey some time.

I've watched a lot of video of the turbo cars, the torque curve is wicked and to hold the wheels up for half the track shows just how much power. it is much easier to turbo an engine with systems like Fast xfi and DFI for pretty much any v6 or v8. I don't know about 4 cyl engines and since I quit working on hondas in the late 80's I don't much care about them.

As far as needing big cubes to go fast I think Dutweiler would disagree he put his Turbo Buick powered cutlass into the 6s
and most recently (last year) Bill Anderson went 7.25 at 180 something
with a single turbo Grand National Race car.

I'd love to see a 7 second street car, I'm sure they are out there....

Ingersol (sic) tried to race pro-stock I believe..his TV6 VS 500"BB's..he came out to potentially dominate so they banned him..much like the hemi in nascar and nhra in the 60s. I guess what iam trying to say is that its easier than ever to build your own car w/ a V8 then to pop 15k on a 6cyl GN. You know qs/quared?? LOL
