Try a Rabbit with over 200,000 kms on it. Shift linkage get so worn, that you get reverse regularly even when just at stoplights.

man i know too well. The 86 jetta diesel i learned stick on had MAJOR Reverse/1st problems. thats why i like the japanese/ other setups better. (R near 5th gear)
