i dont get it....

why are they doing the pulls in 3rd gear?? isnt the 4th gear the 1:1 ratio?? doing it in any other gear would throw off the numbers...

No it's doesn't. The dyno calculates the overall gear ratio using the engine RPM and dyno roller RPM and then factors that number in when calculating HP. You could do a 2nd gear pull and then a 4th gear pull and the power output would be the same. Or that's at least how it works on the dyno's I've seen.
