Car alarm going off for no reason?

Hey guys, I was on the phone with a friend of mine, he was saying that every night around 2:30 am his car alarm goes off. Now he's pretty sure he's checked everything out and no one is actually setting off...who knows what's going on..but I have a quick question..could there be any reason why it's going off besides the fact that someone is actually setting it off? any kind of timer or something?

check the shock sensor location make sure its secure also check the wiring if there is voltage spikes and such a surge of voltage will trigger the alarm...most alarm malfunctions are due to messed up installation and wiring

check the settings..
for example: on compustar's if u leave it on valet mode its always going off...

Lol... in Valet the Alarm SHOULDN'T go off... that's the point of having a Valet mode... so if the Compustars to that (I'm sure they don't) then they're junk...

anyways... Its probably either a door trigger or something or the sort.. or a bad shock sensor as someone mentioned...

If you know what to look for I guess you could check it yourself, but then again I guess you wouldn't be asking here if you did... so I would suggest you bring it to the people that put it in for you or to someone that you know what will know how to deal with the alarms wiring...

Install/Wiring diagrams for most alarms can be found online if it's a bigger name company like DEI, etc... in case you don't have the install manual anymore that comes with every alarm.

OH MAN!!

Heres a warning for your friend. This sounds very similar to what just happenned to a friend of mines dad at his work. My buddies Dad bought a new truck with full paging alarm and all the toys, thought it was safe at work. Everyday for a week straight something had engaged his alarm making my buddies dad stop what he was doing and go outside to check the truck out. After about 7 straight days of having his alarm triggerred he decided that he would leave the paging alarm off for once so as not to get distracted while he is working. Needless to say that that was the day the thieves had been hoping for cause his truck was gone when he was done work! Its a simple scam...trigger a new vehicles alarm constantly till the person shuts it off, when you go to check the vehicle again and its not making noises than your good to go for stealing it...

If the alarm is a compustar than take it to a professional to check out but there is no reason why at a certain time of night the thing keeps going off unless its what I have already mentioned!

Good Luck and let us know how it goes

It could be that the door trigger is hooked up wrong . Had a similar problem where the car had the alarm set to go off when the dome light was on . rather than hooking up the trigger to the pin switch the trigger was wired to the domelight, sometimes that works but in this case its needed to be hooked up to the pin switches and needed diodes to isolate the trigger.

Yea, i used to hear the old trick was a tenis ball on string.. hide behind the bush.. keep setting it off.... finally owner gets pissed and disables it.... car gets jacked.. parts sold on TSR...

but seriously, maybe theres a voltage drop from the battery

i would check the shock senser and make sure its not jus hangin by zip ties or something. secure it. if it still is doing it, try reprogramming it, that is if u still have the instructions. if all else fails take it back to where u purchased it becuase most alarms have a lifetime warrenty, well all dei.

yeah tell your buddy to check everything especially the shock sensor and the grounds.. like everyone else here says it shouldn't be going off at the same time everyday *night* <-- that's when the thieves do their research..
