CD Player / MP3 Player connection?

CD Player / MP3 Player connection?
I have 2 sony cd decks, the first is CDX-F7705X and the second is CDX C4750. They both have the 3 pole input (headphone jack) but I don't have manuals for either of them. Is it possible to use a cable to use the remote input jack to connect an MP3 player? I have tried it on both with a regular cable put they don't work once the mps player has been connected.
