the bazooka amps are not bad at all, pioneer subs are junk they are plastic and sound it, polk is nice but doesn't tend to play deep bass cleanly (they do above 80 hz great) alpine only makes good stuff, jl doesn't make their subs never has never will they are identical to the eclipse and are fantastic subs. Hifonics subs are nice, and for low priced I have had fabulous luck with MA audio they don't play real low (50 hz was as low as I've gotten but that's still pretty good better than any kicker would do)

Sorry- have to disagree with you Chris- I had two JL W12's- I powered them with twice the power they were supposed to have and they loved every minute of it. I also had a 12W4 with 500 watts goin to it and it loved it as well. Every person around here loves their JL's and would stick by them. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.
The biggest thing that people forget about when setting up a system is the headunit. You can't have a good system with a crappy deck. I was running the Premier 900 deck in the car with the JL's. I left all the system in it when I sold it, just took the deck with me. The kid tried hookin up a base line JVC deck to it and wondered why it sounded like crap...
You speakers only sound as good as the signal they are getting-never forget that!!

I think my planet audio subs were about that... and I definitely love my planet audio subs. Planet audio as a whole is an underdog company. Sounds really good, but not the "popular" choice.

Planet Audio had a sub called, Big Bang, and it was. Loudest bass I ever heard for it's price range. I have had Jensen subs (don't laugh, in the right bandpass box they rock some JLs), and some MA's which thump like you would not believe. I have owned Radio Shack subs, and man, you would not believe it unless you heard em. I believe the best sounding sub, was my first. It was a fiber woven coned 10" beast from Boss Audio. I paid $40 for it from some crackhead (seriously), and it was amazing. Now of course I have Alpine, and people scoff at me all the time. I am not sure why. I have pure alpine from HU to Sub's so there is no weakest link Anyways, get your system tuned and make sure everything is in order. If you are installing massive amps, make sure you upgrade your alternator and battery as well. Having a nice stereo means having EVERYTHING covered. Like he said....your subs only sound as good as the signal, same with amps. They only sound as good as the HU. With a huge amp though, when the bass hits hard and you run it long enough, the lights will dim and thats when you know you F'd up. Take it from me. Start from scratch, just like you would with an engine. Get the basics, and the reward will be great.
