Stereos 101

Hey, I would like some help on stereo stuff. I dont know much about it, so I thought of some questions I have. I think Im looking to upgrade after I get all my stuff in within the next month. This is what Im looking to do:

Replace stock speakers with all new ones (door, pillar)
Build a custom box... which I kind of explained a long time ago
I want 2 10" subs.
and I want an amp.. Or 2 if I need it.

So heres my list I came up with sitting in class last night:
-Is there an average wattage? Or whats a good number to look for or run?
-What are all the parts Im going to need? down to wiring, fuses, capcitors, bridges? Im not real familiar with all of these things, so what do they do, or why do I need them?
-Do the connections or wiring from stock need to be changed?
-What connections do I run? I just the copper/silver wires, or is it the red and white cables... I think those are just for subs and amps, just wondering?
-What are some good brands for the things that I want
-What are the sizes for our doors and rears?

I know its a ton to answer, but Id appreciate the help. I just want to learn about it so I can know what to start looking for when I start looking for stuff I want. Thanks for the help in advance to whoever tackles my question(s)

as far as speaker brands go. i vote pioneer some people don't like em some people do i have four pioneers all the way around in my car. umm boston acoustic i think is supposed to be really good to.

Factory replacement info:
In-dash stereo
5-3/4" depth; Size code E,S,U
Front speakers
Front Door : 6-3/4"
Rear speakers
Side Panel : 4"
Far rear speakers
Rear Seat Side Panels : 6-3/4"

that's what i got off crutchfield for a 97 camaro

tell you the truth though i don't know where these mysterious three sets of speakers are i only have two sets....must be a 97 thing

Yeah Ive had 3 pioneer decks, and Ive liked them all except one that **** out last year, but I like my new one much better.

The rear speakers cant be smaller than the door speakers... that doesnt seem right. wtf is the side panel?

yeah I know, im just saying I like pioneer.

I know the rear ones on the pillars have to be bigger than the ones on the door. I guess Im just confused by that list... its saying far rear (which I dont have) are 6", and the sides are 4"... Im almost 95% sure the rears are 6"ish.

I've got 6.75" speakers in the doors and in the rear, they were the same size. As for sub I've got a 10" Alpine type R that does just fine in the car, but I don't like shaking the living **** out of my car so the one 10" is good for me.

I have 6.5" pioneer in the door and the rear and 1 10 inch MTX sub with the sub stealth box and i think it sounds pretty damn good. Most people dont believe that i only have one sub when they first hear it till i show them

I just checked what size my speakers were because 6.75 didn't seem right when I said it and I was wrong, they are 6.5's all around.
