I have a "DXZ958RMC" Touchscreen Clarion Deck. Havn't had a problem with it at all. I play the hell out of it. It has alot of nice features and looks awsome with the brush aluminum face. The back of the deck is just as great, has outputs for highs, mids, and low. 4x53w Internal amp.

Clarion decks = Awsome
Clarion other stuff... ??? havn't owned any of it

Alpine is also nice
I've had a top of the line Clarion back in the day... The SQ was ok (it was the model with the all blue LCD and no internal amps), the motorized face gave me some problems (I'd stick closed - sent it in for warranty, same happened a week later so I just lived with it) and the controls were not very good. Other then that it was a good all round deck and it still works today afaik (I gave it to a buddy when I moved). I paid over 1000 DM (~500Euro) for that deck back in '99.

Since then I'll only touch Alpine decks. I currently have their top of the line 9887 with Burr Brown IC's, and let me tell you this deck is phenomenal! The SQ is just crazy, the features of this deck is perfect (parametric EQ, crossovers, etc) and the best part: It's not flashy. No bling bling screen, just one big **** for the volume and decent sized buttons for all other important options. That's it.

That silver Clarion might be a good deck, but it would stick out like a sore thumb in most dashboards unless you choose to line the rest of your car/center stack with tin foil. I hate that.

So to answer the OP, yes Clarion makes good decks. Sometimes problematic (but then again what these days isn't), but good sounding decks. But i wouldn't buy one again.

My deck:

I'm not a big fan of Clarion decks designs. They may sound good but they look weird and cheap IMHO.

I find Alpine decks (and some Pioneers) have simple but elegant deck designs. Both sound great too.

I used Clarion exclusively when I built my old 1992 Eagle Talon ES SQ car. I loved the equipment, though that was 5 years ago.
