Cat problems?

So lately my exhaust has had like a rattling sound, I got under there a couple weeks ago and was banging around and it sounds like there is loose inside the cat.. Im kind of surprised since its only a couple years old, I probably put like 40k on it or so.. So Im guessing its time for a new one?

I went with a magnaflow carsound before, Im did like the sound before, but do you guys have any other recommendations? I know there arent too many out there, but my setup is pacesetter headers into a 3" magnaflow catback, so I need a 3" which narrows it down even more. I will probably just take it to a shop to get put in because I dont have the time or resources to really do it right now.

On a side note, I have once again gone back and fourth with the idea of getting rid of my car or keeping it. The plan is early next summer to get a Z28 or SS, but today after washing it I am honestly thinking about taking out a loan and dropping in an engine/tranny/new suspension instead. I just keep getting the feeling that I will regret selling my car later in life, and I really love it (minus the small engine haha). I was just thinkin if I took out like a 5k loan and got an engine and tranny and new suspension. Thats really all I would need to get besides the smaller parts. I would probably buy headers right away, and maybe a new exhaust, I dont know yet.

I still want to put an LS1 in my car, despite what some people may say. I think it would be unique, and Ive always wanted to do it. Any thoughts from you guys?

If you do plan on putting an LS1 in there I wouldn't spend the money on the cat and would save it for the swap.
Just empty out the cat and put it back on.

personally i regret selling my camaro, and you have put alot into yours so it would probably be a greater regret for you. Especially since you have a DD i would not worry so much about taking the camaro under the knife. I am sure that someone has done it so the info is out there. And why not be different? sure you can go out and buy and LS1 but where is the satisfactory in that? just remember for a while it will be alot of nickel and dime stuff just to get it right, but personally i think it is worth it

smack your cat with a rubber mallot, if it shakes...its baked! if not, it could be a heat shield rattling around, I know mine does.

It'll sound great at idle and low RPMS but it won't sound the best at higher RPM's but who cares? If it saves money and makes the swap easier then go for it.

Im thinkin Ill do that then. Do you just shove a metal pole through it and knock all the crap out or what? haha. Im just thinkin about how I put it in.. I think its welded to somthing, but it will be a great time to replace the clamp I had on there before. Ill have to take a look at it and figure out it, but I think thats what Im gonna do.

Im pretty sure its the cat rattling.. I hit the bottom with a wrench and theres rattling around... I dont have any heat shields so I know its not that.
