Engine flush or not??
Hey guys,
Just have a few questions. I've been looking into doing an "engine flush" with one of those bottled solutions that you get at crappy tire. What do you guys think of this, is it really worth it or should I just buy another pack of smokes with the 10 bux?
I just want to get rid of some of the built up junk in my motor and I was wondering if these things work or if it is just a waste of money.
Thanx for your input guys!
Cheers.

yeah i've read about seafoam and such, but supposedly you have to order it from the states.
and i'm curious what the risks are too.
I've heard that sometimes the gunk you are trying to get out of your motor is what (sometimes) keeps it from leaking. That is if it's an older motor with enough km.
Any other risks?

ive used it on my altima which had 270,000 kms ..could see all the black smoke (carbon buildup) comming outta the exhaust.
also used it on a friends civic dx which had 450,000 kms .
you can get Seafoam at partsource or napa

seafoam
they keep it in the back at parts source at least the one i go to... its great stuff to do an intake manifold cleaning with like at mr lube i swear they charge like 60 or 70 bux for a simular treatment, but they have the fancy drip bottle.... i just let her buck through the pcv or another vacuum source

what he means is gsr and type r motors are light years ahead of the technology behind seafoam. the engines are just too complex and high performance...leave that old seafoam technology to inferior autos like ferraris and porsches.

im not clear on what part of mine or any other honda/acura could possibly be more complex or high performance than a ferrari or porsche?? please clarify mr stealthz

guys seafoam is great
seafoam is safe for your fuel, oil and intake systems if you use too much its like anything... if your car runs like crap but has some ***** and you've already put new plugs and wires on it chances are its pooched, but for ten bucks it worth a shot as long as its not pissing out fluids from everywhere, rotted to hell, got no brakes & dont start to begin with THEN SEAFOAM WILL NOT HELP YOU!!!

Seafoam is great.. and there is a possiblity of it killin the 02 sensor and cat if you have a lot of carbon build up that it's tryin to remove. I would not and haven't tried runnin it in the crankcase though
If you're able to get schauffer's Neutra 131 ( I haven't looked.. but I was able to pick it up in the states along with couple of good fuel injector cleaners thats only available in the states ) run that for 600-800 km/h
Then use Amsoil engine flush ( most of the stuff thats on crappy tire's shelf are snake oil ) and run the engine for bout 20min. Change the oil.. run for another 20min. ( or a day ) *Rinse* and change the oil again.
I would not recommend any other engine flush other then Amsoil.
If you're lookin for injector cleaners.. the only one I found in canada.. albeit a lil hard is Toulene ( main ingredient for good fuel injector cleaners )
If you're going states side. I'd pick up a couple of bottles of Chevron Techron and or gumout maximum regane.
A few pointers..
- Any cleaners whether be injector cleaners or what not should be done in the last tank before changing the oil ( it will thin the oil due to blowbys ) and you don't want to be ruining and runnin thousands of Km with thined oil that may not give you the needed protection
- IF you're doing any engine flush ( those that requires you to drive around for a bit ) .. ensure you drain some of the old oil so you can put in thicker oil 15-40 cause your oil is guaranteed to thin out from the chemicals.
