Interior Fiberglassing

it all comes down to what u want to do. all ur plastic peices just get a high build primer (like slicsand) wash the plastic peices with a good wax and grease remover, this is to make sure its clean of any kind of crap on there such as armour all. then scuff it, i use 80 -120 grit sand paper and do it by hand not with an orbital. then lay down some high build sand then more high build sand and paint. now for parts that are covered in vinyl, like a dash for instance, i would NOT take it down to the plastic, trust me on this. My first dash I thought that was the smart way but nothing will line up properly afterwards. what I do is drill a ton of whole all over the dash and laydown some fiberglass on top of it(this is after you wash it down with the wax and greasse remover). and I use epoxy instead of resin. u dont need to but its stronger and it bonds to the plastic alot better than resin.

from what it sounds like you dont have a clue what your doing. i wouldnt be ****ing with my interior and ruining everything. you should go to a scrap yard and pull off some random panels and play around with the resin and fleece. dont be thinking this is an easy thing to do.. ive done fiberglssing on a few interiors and it either comes out really nice, or it can be one big headache. if you mix it too much the resin will heat up too much and crack after time.. this is a huge upset and makes everything turn to crap in the end. i say go to a junk yard. pull off a few door skins and misc panels and work away until you have a good feeling with it... cuz dude, trust me it can be a terrible mistake. and btw.. fiberglassing is out of style these days. (unless your going full show or something).. and you will never get the full professional look by doing it yourself.

haha thanks guys.. let the help keep coming.. I realize it can turn out horribly but hey.. you never know unless you try. For it being out of style.. mayb.. but where I live, there is not one car with a fiberglass interior. I personally like the idea of being unique and having something that looks sweet other than some changes to stock.. thanks fot he help guys

ok, so i Have been watching on tv.. they rap wood in a material than put resin on it. Would this work if I did the same, but took the wood out after? What material is the resin weakened by? Mayb try the wood thing over the existing panels?

lol you dnt take the wood out afterwards.. that is what you use for structure. you make speaker rings and then fleece over them and resin the whole jalopy... then you gotta sand, resin, sand resin, sand resin till the resin is fairly thick.. thicker the better. You will not be able to remove the wood once the resin is over the fleece. You keep it all one piece.. dont bother with it man, honestly get it done professionally or else it will look like crap. you can try but id make sure i have another stock panel laying beside me for replacement if the fiberglass turns out bad

95hatchcivic is right to a certain extent. dont use fleece use spandex fleece does work but spandex is a better material to use...and once its resind, u add glass to it. depending on what you are building, different 0z glass will be used for structural integridy.

alright sounds good, I am going to the nearest city on monday so I will see if I can pick up some interior pieces to try on. So spandex fleece instead of standard fleece.. able to pick up at walmart or a fabric store? and glass what do you mean? and one other is how do you get the resin to be so watery?
