intior paint?? what you think

Alright i know there is threads of this out there but id like to put it in the way i want it just to see what everyone thinks

OK first i wanted to take out all the intior plastic now ive always hated that texture they pressed onto the older 4th gen intiors how its all rough so my idea was to take the sandable primer and spray the whole intior to cover the texture then sand it all smooth not being rough at all at which i would do threw the whole car then spray it black then with a high gloss so it would look very very simaler to the extior paint into the car

then take the fabric on the door panals and put a black vinal in it place to match then adding some black leather seats with all new black carpet and head board

now what i want to know is has anyone tryed this method on their intior plastic so i would know if the sandable primier actually sticks and if it does when you finished did it chip off easy or what

i would take my time doing one piece at a time with no hurry plus with winter coming i will have alot of time of the car sitting around

go ahead speak your opinion thats why i put it up if you know it wont work say it if you know it will work say it if you hate the idea then go for it

speak your mind

this has been brought up several times but basically prep work is definatly the biggest thing if u dont prep it right it will look like total ****, but if u prep it right and get the right kind of paint then it can look pretty good.

most replacement parts come black and have to be painted at dealerships. Use good paint and follow teh label directions and it will be fine

i know that most replacement parts do start as black yet with our interior it is pressed plastic my question is if i spray it with primer and then sand it all smooth to cover the texture will it stick or will it just chip off it it chips i dont want to be touching it up all the time

plus the dash cover if i spray a high gloss on it it is going to refract the sun right onto my eyes should i not high gloss that or what i donno if it will look stupid with the whole interior being high glossed and the dash mat not

if you do the dash cover a high gloss, it will reflect onto the windshield more and be more of a bother. Some people find it very annoying, others less so. The best thing to do if you don't want it to bother you is satin or flat. You could always paint it gloss, try it out, and if you hate it paint it satin/flat or get a dash mat cover.

Try this. Take off your dash and drive it for a week. There is a reflective padding foam under your dash, I had to do that when my old one broke... its annoying as all hell, its what made me spend the $120 bucks for a new dash lol.

But if you do do it, take your time, put ALOT of time and effort into it, thats the only way it will look good. If you do it right, it'll look great. good luck either way.

If you use the sem brand paint you don't need to sand it, if you use dollar store spray paint it will chip like mad. Cars have had pressed plastic in the interior since the 60's

Yeah, but if he wants to remove the texture from the plastic and make it smooth he'll have to sand it.

and what i meant by pressed plastic is it is one sold color all the way threw on newer cars if you snap a dash piece most likely it is covered with a certain color and then its a black plastic

The primer will not take all the texture out. It will still have some texture left. If you want it smooth, you will have to sand it.
