Reupholstering...

Ryan and I were discussing seat covers vs. reupholstering the other day, the ups and downs of both. Its not getting done anytime in the near, near future for the Camaro, or the Trans Am. Just a consideration. Anyways, what do you think the cost to get the front and back seats reupholstered would be(an estimate). No leather, thinking along the lines of fabric or vinyl.

I'd guess 400, but that's a 100% guess. Biggest thing is that it'd be a "custom job." If you could find replacement covers in fabric of vinyl from ebay or something, that would reduce it a lot I would think.

a set of neoprene custom covers runs a little over $400 everything, and the vinyl ones I was looking at run about $500 for everything. There are no 'custom' sets on eBay, that really fit the way a custom fit should.

Nothing like a good guess. I think it'd be worth it, though, because a nice custom set of covers (especially like the neoprene, I really like neoprene for some reason) would really set an interior off.

those are just covers, though, not actual reupholstering. Those just go over the seats cover that are already there. I'm talking about replacing the seats factory cover completely.

cant you do it yourself? Would you just need to take the seats out and take off the fabric thats on there now and use that for your template, and just measure and what not and sew a new cover and just slide it on?

I bought mine from LeatherSeats.com, you can see what they charge for just the rear seats. I think it was something like $760 for my set which was front seats, back seats, and door panels.

yeah, it made sense, but we really don't have the equipment and time to be able to do it ourselves. The sewing machine Ryan has couldn't handle the thick vinyl, and even getting the materials around here would be hard.

what I'm figuring (and what we were discussing) was that for the price of the vinyl or neoprene seatcovers, the seats could just be reupholstered for not much more. I'll be doing the doors myself, so that's not a biggie. Just need the seats.
