I believe its more for sound deadning than heat... could be wrong. What kind of black stuff is it leaving on there? I dont think Ive had anything shed from mine.

If the stuff you are talking about is that black material held on with the push in plastic clips you can take it off with no problem. Before I put the Harwood hood on mine I took it off because it was kinda sagging and looked like crap. You don't need to worry about your hood warping.

Yeup, sound deadener, and heatshield. They have them on there 'they're reasoning anyway' because they are afraid if your engine got too hot, it would peel back the paint on the hood?

I've never heard of this happening, so I dont see a problem. Everyone has aftermarket fiberglass hoods with no heatshield on it and no problems.

No.. I believe that is all wrong.. From what I have been told they are for if your engine bay starts on fire.. The fire will melt the plastic tabs holding the thing up and it will fall onto the fire to "help" put it out.. When I was told that it seemed like a good reason..

So.. you think a 3x3 peice of coated insulation is going to put out an engine fire? Good luck with that. Fuel + Oil = no chance. Even if its neither of those things on fire, engine fires burn so hot, it'll incinerate that in moments.

I'd think you should have no problems taking it off. Im driving around an aftermarket hood with no insulation..
