As the winter is slowly (and I do mean slowly) winding down, just wondering what is an effective salt and dirt cleaner product for the carpets and upholstery. I have tan carpets, so it's a pain for me. I have a new car so haven't actually had to clean carpet/upholstery before.

All opinions welcomed.

for the carpets rent a small steam cleaner and all your worries are over.

Don't even bother renting a steam cleaner........

Here's what you do. Get some boiling water, a scrub, some carpet shampoo, and a wet/dry Vacuum. Then pour the boiling water and a bit of the carpet shampoo on the Salt Stain and scrub away, repeat, Then vacuum up the water from your carpet........and it should remove the salt stains....good luck:thumbsup:

i think pouring the water on the carpet would make the salt seep past the carpet and to the floors where you don't want it to be. Plus working with a pot of hot water would be aggrivating. I think the steam cleaner is the best bet with no worries of getting the carpet soaked.

crappy tire sells one, i believe.... ive been meaning to give it a try...

ive only heard that those carpet foam that crappy tire sells are useless...

Use an old stiff tooth brush to loosen the dried salt deposits from the carpet. Vacuum said deposits away once loosened. From there, use a good carpet cleaner (I recommend 303 Carpet Cleaner) to remove any staining left by the salt.

on another note, if i rent a steam cleaner, can i steam clean my seats etc. i want to do everything at once..?

BUN that .......i clean unholstery/carpets everyday ( i am a detailer) , so really no point in listening to these ppl.

like i said b4, a little bit of hot water, some carpet shampoo, a wet vacuum, and some elbow grease........

For one a steam cleaner is much easier then sitting there with a tooth brush or any kind of brush for that matter. You can mix in soap with the steam cleaner aswell to get the same results as slaving away with your elbow grease. Sure the pot of hot water may work but all i said was it can be aggrivating to work with.
