3.4 to 3.8 swap ???

I am new to Camaro ownership and this site. Let me start by saying my name is Chad, I'm 16 and have a '94' 3.4L Camaro. I would like any and all information on doing an engine swap to a late model supercharged 3.8L. I know a V8 is better but I can't afford gas or insurance as I am young and live in Florida and both are very expensive. So far most of the information I have gotten has been mixed about the ease of this swap. Can someone tell me if they have done this swap and if so what it takes to do it (or if they know someone).:banghead:

well the only late model supercharged 3.8s i know of are the GTPs.

i dont think the engines from those cars will work in ours. they have, for the most part, the same block, so it will bolt up fine, but fuel lines, wiring harnesses, etc will be tricky.

you would be better off getting a 3.8 from a camaro, then trying to make the supercharger from the GTP work on the camaro.

however you may as well get a V8.

i dont see how you can afford a swap, yet cant afford $10 more per fill up and maybe 50 more a month insurance.

stick with the 3.4. RSM racing has a vortech supercharger kit that would really wake that thing up and its only about 3 grand. or you can swap the top end from a 3100. aluminum heads, intake, then throw in a cam.

then you'd be russel :D

WHAT! how come i didnt know about that :banghead:
3 grand is not bad

from a 3400 series not the 3100

if you want serious power out of the 3.4 then get a FFF turbo.

depending on how soon u wanna do the swap ( if u still want to ) ill be selling mine in a while, but if u do just let me know

MyFirstCamaro 06-05-2006 01:53 PM

from what i have read on turbos from well turbo magazine wouldnt you nee to get forged parts to prevent cracking and breaking and over heating, or do they sell kits that have everything you need that would minimize this

i think u could turbo a newer engine with low psi fine but if u wanted to run high boost then some parts would need to be upgraded also it would be a bad idea to try and slap a turbo on an engine with like 100k on it

:(.. Thats me. No turbo for this car :(

NCamaro94 06-05-2006 04:53 PM

well your engine can only handle so much boost stock, thats why most people rebuild it with forged internals so it can handle a lot of boost.
