to do a basic LT1 swap you only need the engine with accessories and motor mounts, intake, and exhaust, new bell housing, PCM, engine wiring harness, and coil springs.

however the v6 transmission isnt made to handle more than 250 hp, and the torque converter and flexplate are probably too weak for a V8 as well, and the v6s have a 2-piece driveshaft, an open differential, rear drum brakes, and weak sway bars. the cooling system is also better, the v8s have dual cooling fans and bigger radiators...so...

the complete swap will include an LT1 with accessories and mounts, new transmission with flexplate, torque converter, driveshaft, differential, rear disc brakes, coil springs, sway bars, radiator, fans, and PCM, wiring harness, and gauge cluster.

honestly you can get away with the components of the basic swap for around 2 to 3 thousand dollars, and then theres still the cost of the labor. the complete swap is smarter but will cost probably 4 to 6 thousand, then labor. i considered this at one point but after seeing these numbers i said no.

you need all the v8 parts, alot of band aids, a few friends to help, a ton of kitty litter, and a good towing company for the first trip out.

Im kinda in the process of doing the swap and it came out alot more expensive then I thought it would of been. I bought a doner Z28 with an LT1 for a flat 1500, Still havnt started to move anything around yet because theres no way Im just going to put some old LT1 in my car. So there calls for a overhaull another 1-2000, and I would like to bore it .030 over. So that bumps the price just a little more higher. Then the Tranny Im hoping to go for a T56 tranny (6 speed) since the z28 I bought is a auto Im going to need to find a interior for the 6spd and a tranny and of course the clutch etc.. Lets say I get all that for 600, But the LT1 I bought came with long tube headers so its a mod in the pocket. I would tell you to just buy a Z28 only reason Im doing all this BS is because this car has some what sentimental value to me. But to tell you the truth I didnt think about how expensive it was going to be. O yeh And I would have to overhaul the tranny also 1,000. Advice from me to you buy a z28. Im honestly thinking of just selling everything I have including my 6 to buy a 98 z28 Ive had my eye one. Its blood red with black zr1's and a 6spd. But lets just see what happens.

yep it's a waste of time to drop a used unknown engine in a car, you will end up pulling it usually for something
