91 z28, 5.7 liter 350. need some advice on where to start
hey everybody! i just got my first camaro, actually my first v8, rear wheel drive, and coup. its a 1991 z28 with the 5.7 350. I also just started auto school so im looking to make this car a project car. the only mods so far is a new 700r4 with a stahl torque converter and corvette servo's, and a flowmaster cat back. its not a daily driver, going into storage for the winter in my buddies garage so i can still work on it. I was just looking for some sugestions on what to do first performance wise. im on a bit of a budget for this winter but i wanna make sure i go about this wisely, so that i get the best bang for my buck. i was thinking of starting with hooker headers, the tpis big mouth manifold and runners, throttlebotty air foil, and msd 6A ignition system, that sound like a good start or am i heading for the wrong things first? thanx for the help guys!
first thing is make sure the engine is sound, a leak down test and compression check is first, then headers, cam ,intake, ignition, the air foils haven't been proven to help anywhere I've read

On the other hand, as far as ignition is concerned...I have an MSD 6AL ignition box that is brand new and hasn't been installed. I'm selling it. Brand new they are $230 but I'd sell you this one for $210

Maybe a couple horse- a few more if you are running boost.
There are quite a few parts out there for the TPI motors- the large mouth intake set-ups are nice- but like what Arch said- check to make sure your motor is in good working order. No point in putting $500 worth of parts on a motor that isn't tight.

Instead of the bigmouth intake and runners get the holley stealthram. Since you are already tuned port it would only cost you about 400 to get all that you need and it would offer a greater performance increase than the TPIS stuff. I would also recomend doing some suspension work to your car including subframe connectors. the suspension on the thirdgens just suck especialy with more power than stock. BTW if you get sick of that Z let me know Ive been looking for a 91-92 Z for a few years now and just cant find one for sale!

try summit or jegs these are the part numbers to look for...
intake n plenum 7540
fpr non adjustable 534-185 adjustable 534-186
fuel rail 9900-147
you will need to use a small cap distributer if you dont already have one

I think you may have to take your hood liner out and possibly dimple the underneath a bit. All the 87 and newer SHOULD have the small cap distributer.
