I had a heater hose leak all on the coils so, i replaced the distributor cap and rotor, and fixed the leak (2 day project) then the car fired right up and no more misfire, but the next day i go to leave and it wont crank. I pulled a plug out and no fir, any suggestions? I dont want to go back to the distributor again to much work

well my question is...what heater hoses are close enough to the coil to cause it to short?

Probably the one that runs right next to it...If it gets a hole in the right spot the antifreeze would spill all over it-

Are you getting your SES light? I'm assumin that you are since it almost will always come on when the car doesn't start.

Go thru and double check all your connections. You can probably take your coil and ignition module into a parts store to have them checked to if they are the culprit. If not then I'm afraid its back to the old opti.

p.s.- If you have to go back to the opti- here's a tip that will keep all that antifreeze from leaking all over once you pull those lower pump bolts. Take a shop-vac and get the proper reducer to stick on top of the water pump. Turn on the vac and suck the coolant from the block, or at least enough to keep it from going all over. It works, I use that trick on just about every vehicle I can- it beats trying to either drain the block thru the block plug or dealing with coolant all over.

And if any of you suggest this later as your own idea may a thousand busted knuckles be your punishment..

make sure if you have the coil and module tested they test them repeatedly just a basic test I have had bad ones test good (have 2 in the trunk of the GP that test good, but won't start teh car)

Well the hose that runs to the top of the water pump is the one that busted and it leaked all over, i replaced the ignition coil yesterday, and it is obviously getting fire because it started but its was idling very low and eventually shut off, and giving it gas just bogged it down. What excatly is the opti?? All help is most appreciated, Thanks Ron

Sounds ignition related.. what might be happening is you are getting a weak spark, or spark way off time, which is probably not likely unless the opti (distributer cap and rotor assembly) was installed incorrectly.

well i had a chevy tech. helping me do the install so i doubt it was done incorrectly, is it possible a scanner would identify the problem, since it seems electronic?

Nothing against your help, but a chevy tech isn't that hard to be, and the only problem would have been the opti install which can be pretty easy to screw up on the newer models.

It would only tell you the problem if the computer knows the problem, as in whats happening is outside a known parameter in the computer. For instance- if your plugs are shot and not firing, the computer wouldnt know it since all the sensors are reading correctly. Your A/F would be off, but only if you know what to look for.

If you are throwing a code a scanner will tell you. My laptop has been a life safer more than once between my car and my friends cars. Not too mention its often cheaper since you know exactly what to look for.

Check all your parameters with the scanner if its that type, otherwise just check to see what codes its throwing..

well i tore it all back down again this week and replaced the distibutor, it cranks and sound s good thank, but never the less another problem as long as i give it gas its alright but if i rev it up and let off its like i turn the key off it just shuts down, it wont idle ay all, could it be that the battery went dead for such a long time and the computer wont idle it? Thanks again for all your help.

could be the computer needs to relearn, but it shouldn't be that bad off.
