99 Z24, Won't go into gear...

The car is a 1999 Z24 with about 120,000kms on it, its automatic. The car won't go into any gear, the shifter does not move from park. When the brake is applied the button on the top of the shifter will not depress so you can take it out of gear. Any ideas?

Thanks
-Mike

I have a feeling its something like the brake safety switch, and if its something stupid like that i could fix it....and what happened to your Z24?

Perhaps it's the switch...do you feel any clicking when you depress it....is it easier to press or tougher.

My Z24's fine. It's almost at 100K. It's just a daily, nothing special, springs and a radio. I just don't want it to quit on me at 120k because I'm about to drop large $$$ on a serious car that'll be summer only.

Don't worry about your car dying. My friend's 1996 Sunfire GT has around 280,000kms on it. One can only hope that GM has sorted out every single problem in the last 30 years they have been producing the Cavalier/Sunfire J-body platform.

With WD-40, zip-ties and duct tape you can fix anything
