Alright guys...

Well I'm thinkin about it. In winter if I have enough money, I'm going to rebuild the 327. I need some ideas guys.

archemedes 10-04-2005 03:11 PM

what are you wanting out of it?

korndogg 10-04-2005 03:12 PM

dunno...thats why i want ideas lol.

archemedes 10-04-2005 03:13 PM

throw a cam in it, clean it up, port the heads, and do a fast fuel injection kit (desktop dyno had that around 450 hp)

korndogg 10-04-2005 03:15 PM

what would the cost be about on that..do you have any idea? I kinda need to see how much I need to save also. I dont think i want fuel injection tho.

Mike Jones 10-04-2005 03:44 PM

I love fuel injection but it's expensive. I'm with Arch on the cam and ported heads, but instead of the fuel injection look for a new intake manafold and carb.

korndogg 10-04-2005 03:46 PM

what are we lookin at in price?? couple grand?

korndogg 10-04-2005 03:57 PM

maybe ill just say screw it and find a 427.

You wish. How much are you looking to spend, that's what really matters?

korndogg 10-04-2005 05:06 PM

honestly, I dont know. I need ideas first so I can save for it.

archemedes 10-04-2005 05:48 PM

fuel injection will run pretty close to a new intake and a good new carb ($1500 to $2000) machine work a couple hundred, cam a couple hundred (most are around $189) you'll spend another $500 or so on misc parts.Carb was about 50 hp less on desktop dyno

dont get a big block. with a nicely done 327 that can pull to around 7 grand you will love the sound! i know i do.lol. if u want to go completely rebuilt, take it apart. hone and bore the block. cut the crank if it needs to be, get all new rings and all that, new pistons if you want to change compression, get some mild headwork done, bigger valves, portwork, new valvetrain and a mild cam. i would just throw a new intake and carb on and youll be set. can get near 350 horse with out much money.

spoken like someone whose never experienced the dark side. There is nothing like a big block, and if you bore the cylinders you have to replace teh pistons (bore is next oversize)

Mike Jones 10-04-2005 08:35 PM

If you get forged pistons and a new crank you'll have no choice but to run nitrous on that beast.

weeeelllllll it looks like I might have a new powerhouse to put in my baby.... :)
