Arch have rebuild??
I am going to take the motor out of the Iroc I got and just put it in my car. There is way to much work to rebuild that car (it was wrecked). So the motor runs fine but I don't want to put it in and a month later it blow up cause it has 146,000 miles on it. What should I do when I rebuild this motor.
1. Just new gaskets and bearings and rings
2. Get new pistons, gaskets, bearings, rods like a whole master rebuild
I also want to get a little bigger cam to put in it not wild just a little more than stock. While I have it apart I am going to port the TPI intake and smooth the intake and exhaust ports just get the casting bumps out.
Thanks for the help!!!

I would pull it apart and measure everything, you don't know what crank bearings you need(does it need to be turned can't tell without pulling it apart) how much overbore would it need, gotta be measured and may not need anything but a good hone

OK I am going to be taking he motor out pretty soon and I found a guy that will rebuild it for 300 + parts they deck the heads and balance everything so I think I will get that kit from summit for $299 and get them to rebuild it. What would be a good cam to go in this motor I don't know much about cams I want something a little better than stock nothing wild.

I recomend calling a cam company they can give real answers, what works great in my engine may fall on it's face in yours they will want what gears you have, what trans, what heads pretty much alot of info but it will get you the best cam for what you want (and the info is free)

ill tell ya if it needs a bore. Get the pistons out (or not even just make sure the one ur measureing is not at TDC) you should see the slightly discolored margin at the top where the rings never touched the cylinder heads. Use ur fingernail and slide up and down on it. It should be slightly rough. But if ur finger nail catchs on one chances are its a good idea to bore it over. If they dont catch on any just hone it out and u can reuse what ever pistons ya got. Rule of thumb in my book.
