Arch? Somebody? What is this?

Well the storm let up enough to let me out there with Epic for a minute or two. Found where the leak was coming from. Bad part is it's not straight from a hose. It's this plastic thing in the heater line going to the heater core. What is it? What does it do? Help...

RFF 02-19-2005 10:47 PM

Heater hose maybe? BTW is their an O'Reillys in your state?

MeenZ28 02-19-2005 11:26 PM

Well i know it's part of the heater hose, i'm more refering to the plastic piece there between the two metal clamps. WHen the accident happened it aprears that this piece was pushed into the belt and a hole was burned threw it. Thats where the coolant leak is coming from. I just want to knwo what this part is and what it does. If' i can just bypass it with some hose or if it's necissary. Looking threw it it apears that the passage way threw it is smaller than the rest of the hose so....

If we do have O'Reillys I've never heard of them. Is that an autoparts store or something?

meissen 02-19-2005 11:43 PM

Looks like the rubber pipe I just replaced today on my car.. went from the water pump to the heater core.. it's just normal rubber tubing with some sort of string/thread that runs through it to give it more strength.. It looks bigger / smaller than where the clamps are cause it bulges from the pressure.

I am probably 100% wrong, but thought it was worth a shot.

MeenZ28 02-19-2005 11:48 PM

Thanks for trying Brian, but you are 100% wrong. This thing is plastic. And i still don't know what it is.

archemedes 02-20-2005 01:12 AM

I don't know what that is I never saw one, but the dealer parts people should be able to bring it up on their computer and tell you what it is (you'd have to buy the whole hose) just ask for price and availability

So that expains that. I'll bypass it with hose and forget about it. Thanks for trying guys but i guess thats the differance between a site that has just under 200 members and a site that has 51,000 members.

archemedes 02-20-2005 01:37 AM

I don't trust anyone overthere though I've seen horrible info given, but I agree it shouldn't hurt, especially in your area if you were in MI it may make it heat slower
