beefy trans?
#3
paar i dont think you understood the question...
first thing i'd do is get a transgo shift kit (stage 2 or 3, stage 1 is pathetic) and get some new servos. the corvette servos are awesome, but i have had a hard time finding both the 2nd gear and 4th gear corvette servos. Jet makes some performance servos for the 4L60E and so do a few other companies.
those two alone would really wake that thing up. dont get any shift kit from B&M...especially the electronic shift kit. as many here will tell you, it ruins your trans.
a torque converter will obviously help, but it wont be necessary until you get some big mods.

How beefy you want it?..as in how much power you making?
The shift kits can help as can replacin the clutches/servos in the tranny itself. You start drivin it hard though you are going to want a nice cooler to make sure you don't let heat destroy you trans. As well a deeper pan to let you keep a littl e more fluid as well.
Another thing that will help that many don't consider with the 4th gens is a different torque arm. The stock torque arm mounts right at the tailshaft of the tran putting strain on the entire housing. Get a torque arm that mounts to the chassis instead, you'll be helping your traction and taking unneeded stress off the trans...

yea im with arche on this one. no ofense though. right now im mainly stock. all i have is a cold air intake and gutted converter. I will soon get a Corsa exhaust, accel ignition, then later on throttle body, headers, heads. But i am only 16 so i will prolly drive it hard but i want it to last. does anyone know how much a TCI transmission is. I cant get a deeper pan cuase i lowered my car 2 inches and it is only 3.5 inches off the ground now. So a cooler, what else lol. What are servos, and what is a good type of clutch?

There's a site online that deals mainly in 700R4/4L60E performance. I bought a lot of my transmission internals off them. They even have monster rebuild kits for the 4L60E, as well.
I went with a TransGo Stage II, and fully built internals. It rocks my socks, man.
