best shift points

the rev limiter on the camaros is 5800 i believe so what would be the ideal shift point like 4900, 5200, 5500?

The stock rev limit is 5800. I know most people do not like to run anything higher then 6200 with stock internals.

Shifts may be a little early but I doubt it will do any harm. The LT1 performs best in the low and mid end so you may pick up a little time on the ET's.

every car is going to be different, even 2 exact same engines may differ in power band by a few hundred rpm's best way is to take it to a track and play with it until times drop off

the reason i was asking is because if i shift like 4900-5100 i chirp 2nd, and chirp 3rd. if i hold it out til 5500 and shift it doesn't chirp either gear. i thought maybe i was losing out on some power from revving it longer

A stock LT1 or basically stock (as in cam, intake heads) doesn't pull much farther than 5500 if at all. Once you start swappin some parts you can change all that. But Arch is right- just a little time at the track or on a dyno even, you can see what RPM's you car makes power in.

I definitely would not shift at 4900 rpms (that's more like a L98) LT1's breathe a little better than that even stock. You could probably go 5200, 5300 which might put you past your peak power a little bit, but you want to have the rpm's fall right back in the fat of powerband. So, sometimes it helps to over-extend the rpm just a little so it falls right where it needs to. I would bet with your mods the peak is somewhere around 5100 to 5200. IMO

Good thread, I have been thinking of about using my hypertech to set different shift points as well.
